Brentwood, TN – For the second time in this season and 14th in his Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball career, Terry Taylor has been named Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Taylor had another special night against Murray State, pouring in 30 points and snaring 13 rebounds to key Austin Peay State University’s 74-70 pre-Christmas victory. After a first half that saw him held largely in check (insomuch as that happens), he hit a pair of late threes to cut Austin Peay State University’s halftime deficit to six points.
Then came the second half, and with it a 22-point effort that fueled Austin Peay State University’s comeback win; Taylor would score 10 of Austin Peay’s final 15 points to put the game away in front of a national audience on ESPNU.
Through his first eight games, Taylor is once more among the nation’s statistical darlings, averaging 21.0 points (25th in Division I) and 11.0 rebounds (11th), hitting 57.7 percent from the floor and 87.0 percent at the line while chipping in with a steal per night. He leads the league in scoring, rebounding, free-throw percentage, double-doubles, offensive rebounds per game, total points, total rebounds, total field goals made and attempted, and minutes per game.
It was the culmination of a busy Monday, awards-wise, for Taylor. He also was named CollegeSportsMadness.com Mid-Major Player of the Week and earned CollegeInsider.com’s Lute Olson National Player of the Week honors as well. It’s his second CollegeSportsMadness.com honor this season and the second National Player of the Week honor he’s earned from College Insider.
Taylor is one more OVC Player of the Week honor from some history; the conference record is 15 Player of the Week honors earned by Morehead State’s Kenneth Faried from 2007-11. Taylor tied the league single-season record with eight in 2019-20.
