APSU Men’s Basketball plays Middle Tennessee at Evansville, Sunday

APSU Women's TennisClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) women’s tennis team looks to pick up its first win of the 2022 season against Middle Tennessee on Sunday match at the Evansville Tennis Center in Evansville, Indiana. The match will begin at 2:45pm.

The Governors dropped matches against Central Arkansas and Arkansas during their season-opening weekend in North Little Rock, Arkansas, but had strong showings throughout the lineup.

Freshman Yu-Hua Cheng led APSU with a pair of victories last weekend. The New Taipei City, Taiwan native picked up a singles win over Central Arkansas, Saturday, before teaming with senior Martina Paladini-Jennings and winning a doubles match against Arkansas the following day. Fellow freshman Denise Torrealba earned her first-career victory in duals action on the No. 2 doubles court against UCA alongside senior Honoka Nakanishi.
 
Middle Tennessee has lost its last four matches and enters Sunday’s contest with a 1-5 record and 0-1 mark in Conference USA play and was swept by East Tennessee State, Friday, in their home opener.
 
MTSU returns two of its three All-Conference USA selections from the spring in Zani Barnard and Love-Star Alexis who were each named to the C-USA Doubles Second Team last season.

In the last meeting between the Govs and Blue Raiders, February 27th, 2021, Jana Leder and Aleks Topalovic defeated the MTSU’s All-Conference tandem 6-4 on the No. 2 double court; however, MTSU stormed back to claim four of five singles matches and take the victory.

About the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

2022 Record: 1-5 (0-1 Conference USA)
2021 Record: 11-12 (2-5 Conference USA)

2021 Season Result: The Blue Raiders entered the Conference USA Championship as the No. 10 seed and upset No. 7 Southern Miss, 4-2, in the first round of the championship before falling to No. 2. Rice, 4-0.

All-Time Series: 35-4, Middle Tennessee

Last Meeting: The Blue Raiders defeated the Governors 4-2, February 27th, 2021. While the Governors were able to take the doubles point, MTSU stormed back to claim four of five singles matches and claim the victory.

Next Up For APSU Women’s Tennis

The Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team hosts Cumberland on February 4th at the Evansville Tennis Center. The match starts at 11:30am. Following their match with the Phoenix, the Govs face Western Kentucky on February 5th, at the Michael O. Buchanon Park tennis facility beginning at 1:00pm in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
