Austin Peay State University and Murray State will play nine pairings in the lone match-play event of the season for the Govs. In last season’s Battle of the Border Match Play, the Governors fell to the Racers, 5-4, at Hopkinsville Country Club. The APSU Govs also dropped a match-play event to Western Kentucky, 4-1-2, in the regular-season finale last year.

Austin Peay State University’s last match-play victory came when it beat Western Kentucky, 4-3, at Indian Hills Golf Course in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on March 22nd, 2021.

Leading the Governors off the first tee is graduate student Jay Fox, who is making his third appearance of the season and facing Murray State’s Derek Limberg. Fox posted a 79.83 stroke average this fall but dropped both of his match-play rounds last season.

Next in line for head coach Robbie Wilson is senior Morgan Robinson, who will square off with the Racers’ Walker Beck. Robinson picked up a 4&3 win over John Buchanan in last year’s battle of the border and has played to a 76.83 stroke average in six rounds this fall.

Another Middle Tennessee transfer, redshirt sophomore Logan Spurrier will make his first appearance of the season for Austin Peay when he matches up with the Racers’ Carson Holmes.

Sophomore Payne Elkins is next in line and will battle John Buchanan in the No. 6 match. Elkins played to a 79.83 stroke average in six rounds this fall and picked up half a point in his lone match-play appearance against Western Kentucky last season.

After posting a 74.17 stroke average this fall, senior Adam Van Raden is next on the tee and will play Murray State’s Trey Lewis. Van Raden dropped both of his match-play rounds last season but carded 11 counting rounds this fall and shot a low round of 69.

In the No. 8 match, sophomore Reece Britt will tee off against the Racers’ Kamaren Cunningham. In last year’s Battle of the Border, Britt beat Tyler Abernathy, 1UP, for his first collegiate match-play victory. This fall, Britt shot a 73.00 stroke average and fired a team-low 66 in the second round of the Xavier Invitational.

Finally, senior Jakob Falk Schollert will anchor the lineup for the Governors when he squares off with Murray State’s Jay Nimmo. A transfer from North Alabama, Falk Schollert led the Govs with a 72.42 stroke average and a counting score in all 12 rounds of the fall.
