Six 101st Airborne Division Soldiers receive Soldier’s Medal for response to Helicopter Crash

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Six Soldiers belonging to C Troop, 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) received the Soldier’s Medal during a ceremony held, November 28th, 2017 at McAuliffe Hall, the division headquarters.

Staff Sgt. Beau Corder, Staff Sgt. Richard Weaver, Staff Sgt. Engel Becker, Sgt. Damon Seals, Spc. Christopher White and Pfc. Ryan Brisson were recognized by Gen. Mark A. Milley, Army chief of staff, for their heroic actions following a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crash, January 31st, on Fort Campbell.

“I’m very humbled to be a part of this,” said Milley. “I’ve been in the Army for 40 years and I’ve only seen a few Soldier’s Medals. It’s a very rare thing. What you (Soldiers) did took tremendous courage; you knew it was very likely you would be hurt yourself, but you did it anyway. You make anyone who has been associated with the 101st enormously proud.”

Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction System training

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Company B, 5th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade provides helicopter support for 5th Special Forces Group during fast rope insertion and extraction system training October 4th-5th, at Fort Campbell, KY.

The training allows members of the 5th Special Forces Group and the air crews of 101st CAB to practice infills, exfills and fast rope techniques.

Secretary of the Army visits Fort Campbell

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Secretary of the Army John McHugh visited Fort Campbell, August 11th-12th, toured parts of the installation and received insight from soldiers on their concerns about the Army.

McHugh started his visit to Fort Campbell by getting a detailed brief on the new UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter by Capt. Oliver Moore, Company A commander, 5th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

“We talked about the advantages of the UH-60M versus the UH-60L models,” Moore said. “We talked about how those differences transfer over to the battlefield and what we can do now for the ground soldiers who are fighting the battle.”

5th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade holds Change of Command Ceremony

5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment Fort Campbell, KY – The 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment hosted a change of command ceremony, June 22nd, 2011, at 9:30am to honor the outgoing battalion commander, Lt. Col. John Kline, and the incoming battalion commander, Lt. Col. Christopher Waters.
 
The commander of troops, Maj. Elizabeth Martin, 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment executive officer, posts the colors in preparation for honors to the nation during the ceremony.
