Nashville Sounds let game slip away to Iowa Cubs

 

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds let a 3-1 lead slip away in the sixth inning and never recovered, falling 5-3 to the Iowa Cubs on Saturday night at Principal Park. The loss ended the Sounds’ win streak at four and officially eliminated them from playoff contention. It was just their third loss in the last 16 games.

The Sounds led 3-1 through five innings and got another strong start by Seth Maness. He yielded one run – a Robel Garcia homer in the second – on just two hits and walked none over five innings in a no-decision.

Iowa Cubs steal win from Nashville Sounds with ninth inning rally

 

Daniel Mengden’s Scoreless Innings Streak Ends At 19

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Iowa Cubs rallied in the bottom of the ninth to score two on a walk-off double by Albert Almora to take game four from the Sounds 3-2 at Principal Park Friday night.

J.B. Wendelken came on in the ninth inning to try to preserve a 2-1 lead for the Sounds. Wendelken had the Cubs down to their final out before issuing back-to-back walks to Dan Vogelbach and Taylor Davis.

Arismendy Alcantara came on to pinch run for Vogelbach and advanced to third on an errant throw from Sounds catcher Brian Anderson. With runners on first and third, Almora sent a two-out two-run double to left field and the Cubs took the 3-2 win.

Early Lead Doesn’t Hold for Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Iowa Cubs evened the four-game series with a 4-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Wednesday afternoon at Principal Park.

The Cubs used a run in the fourth and a three-spot in the fifth to erase an early deficit.

A pair of doubles got the Sounds their first run of the game as Jake Smolinski started a rally with two bases to lead off the second. After Andrew Lambo walked, Rangel Ravelo stayed hot with a run-scoring double off the left field wall to make it 1-0. Ravelo went 2-for-4 and has seven hits in his last 11 at-bats.
