Austin Peay Governors Baseball scores seven runs in two innings to pull away from the Youngstown Penguins 8-2

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Sophomore Ryan Quick allowed one run over six innings to lead Austin Peay State University’s baseball team to an 8-2 victory against Youngstown State, Friday night, in opening day action of the 2012 Riverview Inn Classic at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The contest was a pitcher’s duel between Quick and Youngstown State starter Patrick O’Brein through four innings. Quick allowed four base runners and no runs while O’Brein allowed one run and six baserunners.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball game moved to 6:00pm start

 

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Baseball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Friday baseball game against Youngstown State has been pushed back to 6:00pm in an effort to avoid threatening weather in the mid-state area.

The National Weather Service has indicated a strong likelihood of severe weather, with the potential for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, to hit Clarksville this afternoon. Montgomery County is currently under a flash flood watch until 10:00pm, as well as wind advisory until 6:00pm. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay Governors Baseball returns to action with a three-game homestand when it hosts the 2012 Riverview Inn Classic, Friday-Sunday, at Raymond C. Hand Park. The Govs will welcome Akron, Iowa and Youngstown State to the friendly confines for a three-day, six-game round-robin tournament.

Austin Peay is scheduled to play the 2:30pm contest each day with an 11:00am contest matching the tournament’s other two teams.

Austin Peay Governors fall to Georgia State

 

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Baseball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsAtlanta, GA – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team surrendered six runs in the fourth inning and lost, 9-7, to Georgia State, Sunday afternoon, at the GSU Baseball Complex.

The Govs lost the three-game series at Georgia State, 2-1. It was their first series loss since Week 5 of the 2011 season, ending a streak of eight consecutive three-game series victories.

Austin Peay Governors Baseball gets two runs in the ninth to beat the Georgia State Panthers 5-3

Austin Peay State University GovernorsAtlanta, GA – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team scored twice in the ninth inning to down Georgia State, 5-3, Saturday afternoon at GSU Baseball Complex.

Austin Peay (4-3) took advantage of two Georgia State errors in the ninth inning. The first allowed leadoff hitter P.J. Torres to reach base and scamper to second base. First baseman Matt Wollenzin successfully sacrificed the pinch runner to third. Pinch hitter Dylan Riner stepped in and laced a single through the infield, scoring the run and giving APSU the lead, 4-3. Designated hitter Jon Clinard added another run on a single up the middle, giving APSU the 5-3 advantage.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsAtlanta, GA – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team could not survive a barrage of Georgia State home runs, dropping an 8-5 decision in its road opener, Friday, at GSU Baseball Complex.

Austin Peay (3-2) struck first as senior first baseman Tyler Childress belted his season’s first home run – a three-run blast in the second – to give APSU a 3-0 lead.

Reed Harper named Copies in a Flash Austin Peay Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityReed HarperClarksville, TN – Reed Harper, a junior on the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Clarksville native earned adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors after batting .600 during the Governors opening weekend of play.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay Baseball begins a four-game road trip when it visits Memphis for a 4:00pm, Wednesday contest at FedEx Field. The Governors will look to bounce back following a disappointing 10-1 loss to Illinois State, Sunday, that was the only blemish on a 3-1 start to their season.

Memphis will seek a measure of revenge against the Ohio Valley Conference after dropping 2-of-3 to OVC member SIU Edwardsville, last weekend. Austin Peay will turn to junior right-hander Casey Delgado, just four days after his previous start. Memphis will turn to junior left-hander Michael Wills, who made a relief appearance last weekend, in an attempt to stymie the Govs.

Reed Harper nabs OVC’s opening Player of the Week honor

 

Austin Peay State UniversityReed HarperBrentwood, TN – Junior shortstop Reed Harper, who batted .600 during Austin Peay State University’s baseball opening weekend, has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Harper, of Clarksville TN (Clarksville High School), went 9-for-15 with four runs scored, a double, home run and four RBI as Austin Peay won three of four games against Illinois State in the opening weekend of college baseball action. His biggest hit of the series came in Game 3 as his walk-off home run capped a 3-2 come-from-behind victory and secured the series victory. «Read the rest of this article»
