Racers outduel Govs football on Senior Day

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s football team lost a shoot-out to Murray State, 61-35, Saturday, in Ohio Valley Conference action played at Governors Stadium.  

For the second time this season, senior Terrence Holt and junior Ryan White each rushed for 100-plus yards in a losing effort. Holt finished with 140 yards on 14 carries, including a season-high three touchdowns. He also had 189 yards on kick returns, totaling 338 all-purpose yards. White had one touchdown on 119 yards, carrying the ball 21 times.

Holt’s first TD run, a 44-yard, third-down run, cut Murray State’s lead to 21-14 at the beginning of the second quarter. The Racers answered with a 18-yard touchdown run by Casey Brockman, and then back-to-back field goals to make it 34-14 at the break.

Austin Peay Governors football vs. Murray State Racers

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Thirteen seniors will be honored prior to kickoff on Senior Day.

Since rejoining the Ohio Valley Conference the Governors own a 1-2 record against Murray State. The Govs lost in Murray, 27-17, in 2009.

Austin Peay enters the contest on a six-game losing streak. The Govs have endured at least a six-game losing streak five times since the new millennium, the longest losing streak (eight games) coming in the 2003 season.

Senior running back Terrence Holt made his first career start at running back against UT Martin. Even though he has shared the running back duties with Ryan White for the past two seasons, the latter always has drawn the starting nod until last Saturday.

Holt awarded CFPA Kick Returner honor

Austin Peay State University GovernorsDavidson, NC – Austin Peay State University senior Terrence Holt has been Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Kick Returner Co-Performer of the Week.

Holt, the Governors’ running back and record-setting kick returner, zigzagged his way 95-yards with a kickoff Saturday against UT Martin. It was his first kickoff return for a score this season and fourth of Holt’s career. The 95 yarder is his career’s second longest. He had a 99 yarder against Murray State a year ago.

Terrence HoltThe purpose of the CFPA is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Holt owns the NCAA FCS records for career kickoff return (4,445) along with kickoff+ punt return (4,983) yards. He also owns the record for most kickoff returns (181) and combined kickoff-punt returns (230).

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Derek Carr threw for 346 yards and two touchdowns to lead UT Martin to a 28-12 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Austin Peay State University, Saturday afternoon, at Governors Stadium.

The loss was the Governors sixth straight, dropping them to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the OVC. UT Martin improved to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the OVC. The victory also allowed UT Martin to improve to 2-0 in the 2010 Sgt. York Trophy series while the Govs finished at 1-2.

Austin Peay Governors vs UT Martin Skyhawks

With the loss to Eastern Illinois, the Governors are assured of their third-straight losing season.

Austin Peay enters the contest on a five-game losing streak. The Govs have endured at least a five-game losing streak in five of the last seven seasons.

This is a Sergeant York Trophy contest. Austin Peay comes in 1-1 in Sgt. York games this season while UT Martin is 1-0.

Turnovers cost Govs in loss to Eastern Illinois

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCharleston, IL – Running backs Terrence Holt and Ryan White each had more than 100-yards rushing, but four turnovers proved costly as Austin Peay State University’s football team lost 28-10 at Eastern Illinois, Saturday, in Ohio Valley Conference play.

The Panthers scored three of their four touchdowns on drives following Austin Peay turnovers to record their season’s first win–the fourth TD came after a short punt into the a strong wind.

The loss was the Govs fifth straight, dropping them to 2-6 overall. The loss also means the Governors will endure their third straight losing season.

Austin Peay Governors vs Eastern Illinois Panthers

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Since rejoining the Ohio Valley Conference the Governors own a 1-1 record against Eastern Illinois. The Govs won 15-13 in Charleston two years ago but lost at home 30-20 last season.

Austin Peay enters the contest on a four-game losing streak. The Govs have endured at least a four-game losing streak in seven of the last eight seasons.

Austin Peay comes into the game ranked 111th (out of 117 teams) or higher in four defensive categories–rushing defense (117th/260.00 ypg), total defense (113th/455.43 ypg), scoring defense (116th/40.86 ppg) and sacks (115th/.71). Gamecocks ruffle Govs for homecoming win

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJacksonville, AL – Number 3 Jacksonville State scored on five straight first-half possessions and never looked back as it defeated Austin Peay State University, 56-3, Saturday afternoon in Ohio Valley Conference football action played at Burgess-Snow Field. 

The loss was the Govs fourth straight and dropped APSU to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the OVC while Jacksonville State improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the OVC. With No. 2 Delaware losing, the Gamecocks could move up to No. 2 in both The Sports Network/Fathead.com and FCS Coaches poll.

Austin Peay enters the contest on a three-game losing streak. The Govs have endured at least a three-game losing streak in seven of the last eight seasons.

Jacksonville State currently is ranked No. 3 in both Football Championship Subdivision major polls (The Sports Network/Fathead.com and FCS Coaches Poll). The No. 3 ranking is the highest for JSU since moving up to Division I-AA/FCS in 1995. Football Govs downed by late Redhawk rally

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University football team’s opening salvo was not enough to withstand a late push by No. 18/20 Southeast Missouri, as the Govs fell, 41-24, in Ohio Valley Conference action, Saturday night in Governors Stadium.

The Govs scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead. Ryan White scored on a 13-yard after the defense forced a SEMO three-and-out. Another stalled Southeast Missouri drive led to a 27-yard score by senior Terrence Holt.
