Iowa Cubs blank Nashville Sounds, 2-0

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – A strong start by James Naile wasn’t enough for the Nashville Sounds in a 2-0 loss to the Iowa Cubs Sunday afternoon at Principal Park. 

Naile tossed seven innings and limited the Cubs to two runs on just four hits. It was Naile’s eighth quality start of the season, and his first outing since his 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game appearance on Wednesday.

Nashville’s offense never materialized and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They left the bases loaded in the fourth, and runners on in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Nashville Sounds defeat Iowa Cubs 8-3 for Fifth Straight Win

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA -The Nashville Sounds pushed their winning streak to five games with an 8-3 win over the Iowa Cubs in game one of a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Principal Park.

Ramon Laureano led the charge offensively with a 3-for-5 day at the plate as the Sounds collected six extra-base hits. Laureano sparked a rally immediately when he lined a base hit down the right field line to start the game. The base knock extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Franklin Barreto walked to put a pair of runners on base for Anthony Garcia who hit a deep drive into right field.

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds held off a furious rally by the Iowa Cubs to open the unofficial second half of the season with an 8-7 win at Principal Park.

After racing out to a 5-0 lead and holding an 8-2 advantage in the top of the eighth, the Sounds allowed five doubles in the final two innings as the Cubs scored five runs to make it close.

Bruce Maxwell started the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. Nashville added four runs in the third as Franklin Barreto, Anthony Garcia, Sheldon Neuse and Jorge Mateo had hits.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds dropped game two of their five-game series with the Iowa Cubs 7-1 Thursday night after a six-run sixth inning from Iowa.

Nashville starter James Naile brought his A-game through 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit and fanning six batters. The wheels fell off after that as the next six I-Cubs hitters collected a hit off Naile before he was pulled.

He yielded three singles and three doubles. Ryan Dull then entered the game for Nashville and allowed his inherited runner to score on an RBI-double from Bijan Rademacher.

Nashville Sounds slay Iowa Cubs 7-0

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds cracked a pair of home runs and got a bright pitching performance from Ben Bracewell in a 7-0 win over the Iowa Cubs in front of 8,119 fans at First Tennessee Park Monday afternoon.

Joey Wendle started the scoring early when he launched a three-run homer into The Band Box in the bottom of the first inning. It was Wendle’s eighth home run of the season and snapped a Sounds skid of 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Nashville added a run in the second when Melvin Mercedes singled up the middle and Jaff Decker perfectly placed a double down the left field line to bring in Mercedes and make it 4-0.

Nashville Sounds get ninth inning blast from Renato Nunez to beat Iowa Cubs

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Renato Nunez clubbed a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 7-5 win over the Iowa Cubs Thursday afternoon at Principal Park.

The home run by Nunez was his Minor League Baseball-leading 25th of the season and snapped a 5-5 deadlock in the series finale.

It was the second consecutive day the Sounds beat Iowa after trailing for most of the game. The Cubs scored four runs in the second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Nashville closed the gap to 4-3 in the middle innings before Iowa got another run in the fifth to make it a 5-3 game.

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Before Chris Smith took to the mound for the Sounds Friday night he was spotted seven runs. The Sounds would then cruise to a 12-3 win to take game two of a four-game series against the Iowa Cubs.

Nashville erupted for seven runs on nine hits in the top of the first inning to give the 36-year-old right-hander a 7-0 lead over the I-Cubs. Smith (3-2, 3.35) followed up Michael Brady’s quality start Thursday night with one of his own.

He lasted six innings and matched a season-high by fanning eight I-Cubs. Iowa scattered three hits across the first three innings against Smith but he retired the final ten batters he faced en route to the 18th quality start of the season for Sounds pitchers.

Grand Slam gives Nashville Sounds 5-2 Win over Iowa Cubs

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – With the Nashville Sounds down a run and down to their final out with the bases fully loaded, Franklin Barreto stepped up to the plate. The A’s top prospect ambushed a 1-0 pitch and sent it beyond the fence in left center field to give the Sounds the 5-2 win over the Iowa Cubs.

Michael Brady was spectacular for the Sounds aside from two batters in the third inning and it almost cost him and the ball club. The Iowa Cubs could only muster a pair of base runners against Brady but both came around to score.
