Holidays at Home with Strike’s Little Bulldogs

2nd Brigade Combat Team - StrikeFort Campbell, KY – A year ago during the holidays, the Soldiers of Company B, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), were 7,440 miles away from Fort Campbell and partnered with the Afghan National Army, climbing six-foot grape walls made of mud and patrolling the villages of Kandahar. This year, they are partnered with their families and enjoying a rare holiday season at home.

Company B, known as the Bulldogs, know the importance of spending time with their families and made this year memorable. The Soldiers, the Bulldog Family Readiness Group and the Occupational Therapy Group from Milligan College partnered in created a Christmas Giving Tree for the children of the unit and handed out an array of presents at Strike Academy December 15th.

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay will complete a flurry of pre-Christmas action with games on back-to-back days before the holiday break. The Lady Govs will host Florida A&M in a 7:00pm, Tuesday contest, before concluding non-conference play with a 5:15pm, Wednesday meeting against Alabama A&M.

Austin Peay returns to action following an overtime victory at Belmont, Sunday, and will conclude a stretch of three games in four days with the back-to-back outings.

Clarksville High School’s Jessy Ward says Lady Wildcats expect to make it to and win State Championship

 

Clarksville High School senior Jessy Ward will play for Mississippi State next year. She takes a moment to speak with James D. Horne of the Clarksville Sports Network.

Clarksville, TN – Life is going pretty good for Clarksville High right now, the Lady Wildcats improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in District 10-AAA play after they beat Northeast High 89-9 this past Friday night at the Eagles Nest.

It’s just one more small step the Clarksville High team is taking towards a hopeful Class 3A state championship, something that senior guard Jessy Ward hopes happens.

“We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to do well,” said Ward, who will be going to play at Mississippi State next fall. “We’re expecting to make it there.”

Austin Peay Governors Basketball returns home to face Arkansas State

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – John Brady certainly is familiar with Austin Peay and Clarksville.

Before Samford’s brief run as an Ohio Valley Conference school, the Bulldogs under Brady (1991-92 through 1996-97), brought his club to Clarksville on two occasions. In fact, he and APSU head coach Dave Loos battled four times over a two-year stretch.

Now Brady, who spent 10 seasons at LSU, including a Final Four appearance, has his Arkansas State team coming to Clarksville, 7:00pm, Monday night. In his fourth season at Arkansas State, the Red Wolves coach brings a defensive-minded club to Clarksville.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Basketball down Bulldogs in exhibition outing

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team put a lot of pieces on the court in a 62-48 exhibition victory against Cumberland, Monday night, at the Dunn Center.

Austin Peay put 11 players on the court in the exhibition and all the new faces and combinations led to a sloppy contest. The Lady Govs shot just 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the field and committed 21 turnovers in the contest.

Lady Govs volleyball pushes Butler in three-set sweep

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team pushed host Butler to the brink, but could not break through, dropping a three-set decision (25-27, 17-25, 24-26), Friday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The opening set was a see-saw affair with Austin Peay (2-7) and Butler (4-6) exchanging the lead seven ties with 17 ties. The Lady Govs fended off two set points before succumbing on the Bulldogs third attempt, losing 27-25. Both teams posted 18 kills in the opener, Austin Peay posting just one more attack error (5-4).

Lady Govs Seek to Maintain Momentum at Butler Invitational

 

APSU Sports: Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsIndianapolis, IN – After a weekend where its offense showed steady improvement, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team will seek to maintain that momentum in its three-match stay at the Butler Invitational, Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Govs will meet Central Michigan in a 1:30pm (CT), Friday contest before facing host Butler at 5:00pm that day. Austin Peay will meet  Elon at 1:30pm, Saturday, in their final match of the tournament.

Shutout and hat trick highlight Lady Govs soccer opener

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team opened its home schedule shutting out Union, 5-0, Tuesday night at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

Sophomore Tatiana Ariza netted her season’s second hat trick, while sophomore Natalia Ariza and junior Emily Perkins each added a goal as well.

“I’m really pleased with the result,” Lady Govs head coach Kelley Guth said. “Union was a good team. They were organized and they stayed in system. They put us in some pressure early, but we spent a lot time this week working on our collective shape. I saw a lot of positives tonight, as far as how we trained this week.”

Tatiana Ariza named OVC Player of the Week

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Sophomore Tatiana Ariza, of the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, Tuesday.

Tatiana ArizaNot only did Tatiana tally 14 points in the Lady Govs’ season-opening road trip sweep of Alabama A&M and Chattanooga, she did it in an efficient fashion. The Bogota, Colombia native – who recently participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup – scored five goals on nine shots.

In the season-opener at Alabama A&M, Ariza registered her first career hat trick as the Lady Govs scored a program-record 14 goals against the Bulldogs. She also tallied two assists in the contest, matching a career best. «Read the rest of this article»
