Austin Peay State University’s Damarius Smith to sit for basketball season’s first half

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Senior guard Damarius Smith, who started 20 games at point guard for Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team a year ago, has been suspended for the 2014-15 season’s first half for a “violation of athletic department policy.”

Chris Horton named Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Sophomore center Chris Horton, of Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Horton and the Govs went 2-2 during a rare four-game week, bookending losses to Central Michigan and Cal State Northridge with victories against Southern Illinois and Montana State.

APSU Governors Basketball beats Montana State 78-72

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUMount Pleasant, MI – Chris Horton scored a career-high 23 points while fellow sophomore Zavion Williams came off the bench to add 21 to lift Austin Peay State University to a 78-72 win against Montana State, Saturday night, in the final game of Central Michigan tournament.

In completing the tournament 1-2, the Govs’ victory evened their mark at 3-3 while Montana State fell to 1-4.

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUMount Pleasant, MI – Central Michigan opened the second half on a 21-10 run and never looked back as it defeated Austin Peay State University, 90-75, Thursday night in the opening round of the Central Michigan Tournament at McGuirk Arena.

Cannon Show, Basketball to share APSU Governors Radio Network, Thursday

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Another busy Thursday is in store for Austin Peay State University athletics, and Clarksville’s radio airwaves will be full of Governor sports action beginning 5:30pm, November 21st.

The Kirby Cannon Show, live from the Gilroy, will hold its usual 6:00pm-7:00pm radio slot this week on WJZM 1400 AM, where Govs football head coach Kirby Cannon and host Brian Rives will discuss last week’s final home game at Governors Stadium as presently constructed and look forward to Saturday’s season-finale at Tennessee Tech.

APSU’s Chris Horton blocks shot to give Governors 72-70 win over Southern Illinois Salukis

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Sophomore center Chris Horton blocked Anthony Beane’s potential game-tying lane jumper with one second left to preserve Austin Peay State University’s 72-70 victory over the Southern Illinois Salukis, Tuesday night, in non- conference basketball action played at Dave Aaron Arena.

The block was Horton’s seventh, tying both his and John Fraley’s records. Fraley originally set the mark in 2011. Horton tied the mark four times a year ago. His most-recent block party could not have come at a better time.
