Law Enforcement agencies to hold Robot Rodeo Saturday, November 7th in Clarksville

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOClarksville, TN – The FBI, Fort Campbell, Nashville International Airport, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Bomb Squads will partner with middle school students on Saturday, November 7th for a Robot Rodeo competition at the Northeast School Campus.

The event kicks off at 9:00am. After opening comments, bomb squads will conduct several demonstrations to showcase the capabilities of their robots. Afterwards each bomb squad will be paired with a middle school and their students for the competition. «Read the rest of this article»

Clarksville Montgomery County School System names new Clarksville High School Principal

 

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – Jean Luna, who has served as assistant principal at Clarksville High, has been appointed by Schools Director Mike Harris as the new CHS principal.

“To be appointed principal of Clarksville High School is a great honor. The history and traditions connected with CHS make it a very special place within the community.  I’m excited to work collectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and stakeholders to continue the excellence associated with being a Wildcat,” Mrs. Luna said.

High School Basketball Roundup for December 20th

 

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – The Northeast High School Eagles and Clarksville High School Lady Wildcats both remained undefeated with wins in high school basketball games Tuesday night. Northeast improved to 12-0 with its 67-52 victory over Hunters Lane in the State Farm Holiday Tournament in Riverdale. Clarksville High’s Lady Wildcats also upped their record to 12-0 with a 63-49 win over Munford in the Ensworth Tournament.

For Northeast, Kentucky signee Alex Poythress scored 30 points and Anthony Longstreet added 10.

For Clarksville High, Tennessee signee Bashaara Graves scored 26 points, Florida signee Chandler Cooper added 13 and Austin Peay signee Tiasha Gray chipped in 12. Rossview High also won in the Riverdale Tournament.

Clarksville Sports NetworkSad news that Austin Peay’s Anthony Campell is out for the year with another ACL/MCL injury to his left knee.

This comes after he hurt the same knee in the same way last year. APSU made the announcement on Wednesday.

I know Anthony and not only is he a great athlete, but he’s also a great person and so is his family.

Schools respond to growing number of “superbug” infections among students

 

With the release of information that three students in three Clarksville-Montgomery Schools have contracted MRSA, a “superbug” staph infection resistant to traditional antibiotics, one might ask why the school system has chosen not to disinfect city schools, or at least the ones attended by the students involved?

On Friday it was reported that three students in three CMCSS schools — Northeast Middle, Cumberland Elementary and New providence Elementary — in three distinct sections of the community had developed MRSA infections. It has not been disclosed where or how the individual students contracted MRSA in such geographically separate districts and because of the link to hygiene the source could be “anywhere,” officials indicated.

MRSA [Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus] is a type of bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics including methicillin, oxacillin, penicillin and amoxicillin, which can make it difficult to treat. Its symptoms include red pimple-like pustules that may ooze pus. MRSA can only be verified through laboratory tests; keeping the infection site clean and covered until the infected area heals, and vigilance in personal and environmental hygiene is essential in preventing further spread of MRSA. «Read the rest of this article»
