Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay hopes a late-season break from Ohio Valley Conference action can help get the Govs back on track as Youngstown State comes to town, 7:30pm, Saturday for the Sears BracketBusters contest.

The Govs are amidst a five-game losing streak after dropping an unseemly 52-48 decision, Wednesday. After permitting more than 70 points in five straight games, the Govs encountered other issues against Morehead State.

Austin Peay Governors Basketball mounts furious comeback but is foiled in Overtime

 

APSU Sports Information: Austin Peay Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBowling Green, OH – Austin Peay State University overcame a 17-point second-half deficit to force overtime but couldn’t complete the comeback as the Governors fell to Detroit, 94-93, Wednesday in the final game of the College Basketball Experience, played at the Stroh Center.

The loss left the Govs 0-6 heading into their 7:00pm home opener, Saturday, against Middle Tennessee. Detroit snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 3-3 on the young season.

Turnovers, free-throw shooting woes undermine Austin Peay Governors Basketball in loss to Bowling Green

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBowling Green, OH – Despite shooting better than 50 percent from the field for the first time this season, Austin Peay State University could not overcome turnover and free-throw shooting problems as it fell to Bowling Green, 82-72, Monday night, in College Basketball Experience action played at the Stroh Center.

The Governors are now 0-2 in the CBE and 0-4 for the first time since 1993-94. Bowling Green is now 2-1. APSU will play George Washington, 4:00pm, CT, Tuesday in more CBE play, with Bowling Green to follow against Detroit.

Free throw woes, first-half turnovers doom Austin Peay Governors Basketball in opening loss at MTSU

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurfreesboro, TN – Middle Tennessee State University used a 12-0 first-half run and then staved off repeated Austin Peay State University challenges before finally pulling away for an 80-71 non-conference verdict, Friday night, at the Murphy Center.

The contest was the season opener for both clubs and it snapped APSU’s modest two-game winning streak in the series between the two longtime rivals.  This was the first meeting, however, since the 2007 season.

Austin Peay Governors to face two Top 25 Foes in Non-Conference Basketball Schedule

 

APSU Sports Information: APSU Basketball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s basketball team will play a pair of Top 25 teams in their non-conference schedule this fall.

ESPN/USA Today released its coaches poll, Thursday, and the Govs’ 2011-12 second opponent (November 15th), California, enters the season ranked No. 24 after posting a 17-14 record a year ago, but return 6-6 forward Harper Kamp and guard Jorge Gutierrez, both who averaged 14.3 ppg a year ago. The Govs will play the Bears as part of the College Basketball Experience.

Govs to play Bowling Green, George Washington, Detroit in final three CBE contests

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s final three games and site have been determined for the 11th annual College Basketball Experience (CBE).

After playing at California in an ESPN2 regional-round contest, Tuesday, November 15th, in Berkeley, CA, the Governors three subregional-round games will be played at the new Stroh Center in Bowling Green, Ohio, against host Bowling Green, 6:00pm (CST), Monday, November 21st; George Washington, 4:00pm, Tuesday, November 22nd, and Detroit, 4:00pm, Wednesday, November 23rd. The road swing actually will commence with the Governors traveling to Tulsa, OK, Saturday, November 19th, to play Oral Roberts in a return game of the 2010 ESPN BracketBuster series. APSU will fly from Tulsa to Ohio after that contest.
