Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)Nashville, TN – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) wants the public to be safe during the Fourth of July. Understanding the dangers associated with illegal or improperly used/manufactured fireworks can prevent severe injuries, disfigurement, or even death.

Illegal devices are not fireworks, but are often manufactured and used during the fireworks season. These devices are made up of explosive compositions that are typically extremely sensitive to heat, shock, electrostatic discharge and friction that may initiate unexpectedly causing serious injury or death.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN  Clarksville Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Howard’s Hopeto offer free swim lessons to Montgomery county children between the ages of 3 – 12 years old.

The Howard’s Hope “Flying Fish” program focuses on preventing juvenile drownings in Tennessee by funding swim lessons for children residing in economically disadvantaged households.

The funds for the Flying Fish program are provided by a grant from BlueCross BlueShield Tennessee Health Foundation and donations from private and corporate citizens throughout the United States.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety CommissionWashington, D.C. – U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that Carrier Corporation is recalling Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners, Heat Pumps for repair due to fire hazard.

This recall involves Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC) and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHP) sold under the Bryant, Carrier and Fast brand names. Recalled units include those with original power cords and those that received a supplemental power cord as part of the 2007 recall.
