Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – After an opening weekend that included an upset of then-No. 19 Missouri, Austin Peay State University volleyball student-athletes Ashley Slay and Kristen Stucker were recognized for their individual performances by the Ohio Valley Conference, Monday.

Slay, a Nashville native, was named the adidas® OVC Offensive Player of the Week after she racked up 69 kills over four matches and was named to the all-tournament team during the Culvers Governors Challenge.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Volleyball, Soccer off to good starts for Governors

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – There’s an old saying that goes ‘it’s not how you start, but how you finish’ and that adage is true almost without exception … but it doesn’t hurt to get off to a good start either.

Just ask the Austin Peay State University’s volleyball and soccer teams who have both gotten off to sparking 3-1 starts to begin their respective seasons.

The volleyball team came out blazing this past weekend in their own Culvers Governors Challenge winning their first three matches, including a five-set victory over nationally-ranked #19 Missouri, along with wins versus Missouri-Kansas City and Marshall before falling in their final match of the weekend to preseason number two pick in The Missouri Valley Conference University of Northern Iowa.

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Senior Ashley Slay finished with 19 kills and sophomore libero Ginny Gerig notched a season-best 28 digs but Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team dropped a four-set decision (19-25, 23-25, 28-26, 12-25) to Northern Iowa, Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Culvers Governors Challenge at the Dunn Center.

APSU Volleyball takes down No. 19 Missouri in five sets

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team overcame a five-point deficit in the final set to stun No. 19 Missouri in five sets (25-11, 19-25, 27-25, 22-25, 17-15), Saturday afternoon in the second day of the Culvers Governors Challenge at the Dunn Center.

Austin Peay (3-0) faced a five-point, 10-5, deficit in the fifth set after Missouri (2-2) rallied for runs of three and four points in the early part of the frame.

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team got its 2017 season off to a strong start with victories against UMKC and Marshall in the Culvers Governors Challenge, Friday.

Austin Peay (2-0) shook the rust off in its season-opening match against UMKC, winning in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-16).

APSU Volleyball selected second in OVC Preseason Poll

APSU Women's VolleyballBrentwood, TN – Expectations will run high for Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team after the Ohio Valley Conference’s coaches and sports information directors picked them to finish second in the 2017 regular-season race, Tuesday.

In addition to the preseason poll, senior middle blocker Ashley Slay and junior setter Kristen Stucker were named to the 14-member Preseason All-OVC team. Each following a First-Team All-OVC appearance for each last season.

Instant Peay Play: Less than a month until APSU Govs return to action

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With the Fourth of July holiday in the rearview mirror and the dog days of summer just hitting their stride, it is less than a month before the return of Austin Peay State University student athletes and the beginning of the 2017-18 athletic school year.

Although the first day of classes on the main Austin Peay campus isn’t until August 28th – eight weeks away – over the next few weeks members of the football, volleyball, soccer and cross country teams will return to campus to hold their respective pre-season workouts.
