We hear the whispers of this ideal within the words of the Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

The generation of Americans which fought to free us from the tyranny of Europe in the late 18th Century probably could not have grasped how these words, and the spirit of the ideal they reflect would be used by subsequent generations to form the nation we live within today.

Mayor’s Youth Council visits Tennessee State Capitol

 

Education legislation in support of military dependents to be heard in Education Sub Committee

Tennessee State Representative - District 67Nashville, TN – Six students and two staff members with the Mayor’s Youth Council visited the Tennessee State Capitol last week.

“These student leaders are to be commended for making the time to visit the capitol,” State Representative Joe Pitts (D-Clarksville) said.  “I always look forward to constituents, especially students, visiting the State Capitol,” Pitts said.

Legislation for children of service members killed or reported missing in action to be heard in Education Subcommittee this week.

Volunteers Working to Collect 7,700 Gifts for Needy Kids This Christmas

Operation Christmas ChildClarksville, TN – While many Clarksville families are busy with holiday activities, a group of local volunteers is focused on filling empty shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, hygiene items and notes of encouragement for needy kids overseas. Clarksville families are participating in the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind—Operation Christmas Child—an effort that has hand-delivered 86 million gifts to kids worldwide since 1993.
