101st Airborne Division celebrates its 2018 Day of the Eagles

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – For over 75 years the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) has celebrated a “Legacy of Heroism,” to honor valiant Soldiers from the past and present.

The 101st Airborne Division hosted the 2018 Day of the Eagles, May 24th, here and presented this division with another opportunity to remember those who have passed and strengthen the bonds of those still here.

Day of the Eagles was open to the veterans, family members and surrounding community members. The celebration included: a division run, Best Air Assault Soldier competition, museum open house, lunch with Soldiers, Sabalauski Air Assault School tour with rappel demonstrations, unit open houses with static displays, Honor Eagle ceremony, and a memorial ceremony.

Week of the Eagles was a tradition started in 1973 as an effort to reinvigorate the sense of community and is still carried on today to also honor those who served. (Sgt. Fort Campbell’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team “Strike” honors History; Builds on their Legacy

Fort Campbell, KY – The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), held a rededication ceremony here July 30th, 2015, officially moving the memorials to their new location.

The ceremony was one of the many events featured during the Day of the Eagles.

The Strike brigade memorial is the first of the BCT memorials to go on what will become Memorial Row.

An honor guard rifle detail fires a 21-gun salute in honor of Spc. Matthew Walker during a wreath laying at the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division’s memorial rededication ceremony at Fort Campbell, Ky., July 30, 2015. 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell host Day of the Eagles

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell held its Day of the Eagles here July 30th, 2015.

Day of the Eagles is a tradition to honor past and present 101st Airborne Division Soldiers.

The first “Week of the Eagles” celebration was held in 1973, a year after the division was welcomed back from Vietnam. This year’s Day of the Eagles themes are “Once a Screaming Eagle, always a Screaming Eagle,” and “Continued legacy of dominance and dependability in battle.”
