Austin Peay State University’s Grant Leaver, Ed Bunio, Bob Bradley selected for APSU Athletic Hall of Fame

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – One of the greatest golfers in the Governors illustrious history plus a former football standout who returned to his alma mater to help coach the program to its only Ohio Valley Conference title have been selected to Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

In addition, a former superb basketball player from Austin Peay’s small college era was selected to the Hall of Fame as part of it Honors category.

Grant Leaver, a two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree who won five individual championships and played in the 2008 NCAA East Regional; Ed Bunio, a two-way player who was an All-OVC offensive tackle for the 1964 8-1-1 club and later was the architect for 1977 Governors’ championship defense, have been elected to APSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Bob Bradley, who was a key member of two College Division NCAA teams in 1960-61, was chosen as this year’s honors inductee.

Miller’s 74 not enough, Golf Govs finish sixth at EY Invite

 

APSU Men’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMuncie, IN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team had to settle for a sixth-place finish at Ball State’s Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.

The Govs dropped one spot, but still managed to finish ahead of Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky, who came in at 11th. Host Ball State won the event with a three-round 1104, followed by Bowling Green (1113), Northern Illinois (1120), Marshall (1123) and Wright State (1135) to round out the top five. The Govs 1143 was 14 strokes better than the Colonels.

Golf Govs vault from 11th to 5th after two rounds of Earl Yestingsmeier tourney

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMuncie, IN – Shooting the second round’s second best score in trying low-40 degree weather conditions, Austin Peay State University men’s golf team vaulted from an 11th-place tie to fifth during Saturday’s competition at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, being played at the Delaware Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament will conclude, Sunday, with the final 18 holes on the par-70 and 6,438-yard layout.

Golf Govs head to Indiana for final pre-OVC tourney tune up

 

APSU Men’s Golf

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMuncie, IN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament by heading north to play in the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, at Delaware Country Club.

The 54-hole tournament will begin Saturday with a 9:00am shotgun start and the teams will play 36 holes. The final 18 holes are scheduled for a 9:00am shotgun start Sunday. The Delaware Country Club will play to a par 70 and 6,438 yards.

Golf Govs improve, but still finish tied for 16th at Arkansas State event

Austin Peay State University GovernorsJonesboro, AR – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team battled back from a disappoint first round to shoot a much-improved final round in the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State at the par-72 RidgePoint Country Club.

The Governors shot a seven-over 295, Tuesday, to finish at 602 and in a 16th-place tie with fellow Ohio Valley Conference foe UT Martin in the 18-team field. Host Arkansas State rallied to win the event with a 566 while Central Arkansas was one stroke back followed by Jacksonville State at 571. Another OVC school, Murray State, was tied for seventh at 575 while future league foe SIU Edwardsville was in 10th (581) and Eastern Illinois in 15th (595).
