Former APSU Gov, Clarksville native Ryne Harper making the most of MLB opportunity

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – After nine years and just over 300 games bouncing around in the minor leagues, former Austin Peay State University (APSU) Governors baseball player, and Clarksville native, Ryne Harper is off to a great start in this first action in the major leagues.

In a team-leading 30 appearances so far this season with the Minnesota Twins, Harper is 2-0, with a save, five holds, a 1.93 ERA, and 27 strikeouts to just six walks in 28 innings of work.

Instant Peay Play: Former APSU Baseball Pitcher Jared Carkuff now in San Diego Padres organization

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Former Austin Peay State University baseball pitcher Jared Carkuff was part of an off-season trade, Jan. 6th that also included major league player Yangervis Solarte, with the former Govs right hander moving from the Toronto Blue Jays organization to the San Diego Padres minor league farm system.

Carkuff played at Austin Peay from 2013-16 and drafted in the 35th round of the MLB June Amateur Draft by the Blue Jays and who along with center fielder Edward Olivares were two minor league prospects picked up by the Padres for Solarte – who had 18 home runs and 64 RBI in 128 games for San Diego in 2017 playing mostly at second base, but can play all four infield positions.

Nashville Sounds Slugger Leads Triple-A Baseball with 22 Home Runs

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Nashville Sounds’ infielder Renato Nuñez was named as a participant in the 2017 Triple-A Home Run Derby scheduled for Monday, July 10th in Tacoma, Washington, Triple-A Baseball announced today.

Nuñez joins Dan Vogelbach (Tacoma) and Christian Walker (Reno) of the Pacific Coast League, along with the International League’s Bryce Brentz (Pawtucket), Danny Hayes (Charlotte), and Richie Shaffer (Columbus) as sluggers to participate in the annual home run hitting contest.

Pacific Coast League falls 4-3 to International League to win 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game

 

Triple-A All-Star GameOmaha, NB – The International League rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Pacific Coast League 4-3 in front of a sellout crowd of 9,023 fans in the First National Bank Triple-A All-Star Game at Werner Park.

The Sounds lone All-Star representative, outfielder Jason Pridie started and played the entire game. The 31-year-old went 2-for 5 on the night, with a pair of singles.

The PCL held a 3-1 advantage heading into the ninth, but with the bases loaded Kyle Roller delivered a two-run single up the middle to even the score. After a pitching change, Lehigh Valley’s Tyler Henson singled home Indianapolis’ Alen Hanson for the go-ahead run.

Nashville Sounds announce Rick Sweet as new manager

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds have announced that Rick Sweet will serve as the team’s field manager for the 2014 season.

The 61-year-old Sweet becomes the 25th manager in the Sounds’ 37-year franchise history and will be joined by a returning coaching staff. Coach Bob Skube , pitching coach Fred Dabney, trainer Aaron Hoback, and strength & conditioning specialist Andrew Emmick all were previously announced as returning for another season in Music City in 2014.

Bundy, Sarbaugh to lead PCL, IL in 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game

 

Triple-A BaseballAll Star GameRound Rock, TX – Lorenzo Bundy, first-year manager of the Pacific Coast League’s Albuquerque Isotopes, and Mike Sarbaugh, second-year manager of the Columbus Clippers of the International League, have been named managers of their respective league’s All-Star teams for the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game.

The game, presented by Zions Banks and Workers Compensation Fund, will air live on MLB Network on Wednesday, July 13th from Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah, home of the PCL’s Salt Lake Bees.
