Austin Peay Lady Govs Soccer opens 2012 Season with Arkansas Road Trip

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team returns 11 starters and a host of contributors from last season’s 8-9-1 squad, including two Olympians and an All-Ohio Valley Conference performer.

The Lady Govs open play at 7:00pm, Friday, in Fayetteville, AR against SEC foe Arkansas. Austin Peay swings through Little Rock for a 1:00pm, Sunday, match-up against UALR.

Sean Bailey, Vanja Tomic, Greg Bachman earn Austin Peay highest Athletics Honors

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the first time since Austin Peay State University established the awards nearly two decades ago, the Most Outstanding Male and Female Athletes have come from the sport of tennis.

Junior Sean Bailey, who recently was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in leading the Govs to the No. 2 seed in the OVC tournament, and Vanja Tomic, a three-time first-team All-OVC selection who owned an 19-6 record at No. 1 singles this year, have been named the 2011-12 Most Outstanding APSU Athletes.

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team hits the road for a 3:00pm, Friday contest at Eastern Kentucky, before the season-finale, noon, Sunday at Morehead State.

The Lady Govs are one of several Ohio Valley Conference teams competing for a postseason bid in the league’s final weekend. Depending on how things play out, Austin Peay could finish as high as second place or miss the tournament all together.

Arizas help Lady Govs to win against SIU Edwardsville

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team picked up an important 2-0 win against SIU Edwardsville, Friday night, at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

Sophomore Natalia Ariza blasted the gamewinner in the 26th minute, giving APSU a 1-0 lead. The Lady Govs were assembling in front of the Cougar goal when Ariza came up with the deflected ball about 15-yards out and bent it past the diving keeper.

Back to the road for APSU soccer at JSU and TTU

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – After a near two-week break, Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team hits the road for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches, beginning with a 7:00pm, Friday match at Jacksonville State followed by a 2:00pm, Sunday match at Tennessee Tech.

“We had almost 12 days of rest and that has been great for our team,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “We’ve had a number of players beat up, so we’ve used this time to get some players healthy. The team is re-energized and ready to play. The week off has brought a hunger to our players to get back out there.”

APSU soccer hits OVC road for Murray State, Sunday

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team looks to get back on track with a 1:00pm, Sunday, Ohio Valley Conference match at Murray State.

The Lady Govs struggled in the league’s opening weekend, dropping matches to Southeast Missouri, 3-1, and UT Martin, 2-0. Not only is the three-game skid the longest this season, but it’s also the most consecutive losses since 2009. Over the three-game span, Austin Peay has simply lost the ability to find the back of the net. The Lady Govs have outshot opponents by seven attempts, 39-32, but have managed only one goal.

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team suffered its second-straight loss, falling 2-0 to UT Martin, in Ohio Valley Conference play, Sunday afternoon.

The Skyhawks (6-3-2; 1-0-1 OVC) took an early 1-0 lead on a header by Alyssa Curtis. An Austin Peay (6-5; 0-2 OVC) foul set up the indirect kick and Curtis managed to break free inside the box for the goal. UT Martin scored the insurance goal in the 48th minute.

Breakdown leads to OVC-opening loss for Lady Govs soccer

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer dropped its Ohio Valley Conference opener, 3-1, to Southeast Missouri, Friday night.

On the opening night of OVC soccer, conference-wide, the Lady Govs (6-4; 0-1 OVC) found themselves searching for offense against a Southeast Missouri (5-2-1; 1-0 OVC) team that entered the match having allowed only 12 goals all season. Austin Peay managed to outshoot the Redhawks, but struggled to find the back of the net.

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – When Ohio Valley Conference play opens for Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team against Southeast Missouri, 7:00pm, Friday night, it will be a rematch of the 2010 OVC Tournament semifinals.

Although a year has passed for both teams since the Lady Govs pulled a 3-1 upset of then-No. 2 seed Southeast Missouri to advance to the championship match, both programs will be hungry to open league play this weekend.
