Flooding Leads to Some Closures at Land Between the Lakes, Exercise Caution

Land Between the Lakes - LBLLand Between the Lakes, KY/TN – U.S. Forest Service officials at Land Between the Lakes warn visitors of rising lake levels that will close some campgrounds and impact trails.

Piney Campground, Cravens Bay Campground and Smith Bay will close on March 1st. Other campgrounds will have some restrictions.

Visitors are encouraged to exercise caution and use boat ramps at their own risk.

Fort Campbell Soldier Juwan Richardson dies in boating accident at Kentucky Lake

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A Soldier with 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) was pronounced deceased May 14th, 2018. He was previously missing after a May 11th boating accident at Kentucky Lake in Golden Pond, Kentucky.

Pfc. Juwan Richardson, 20, of Gordon, Alabama, was a petroleum supply specialist in 2nd Brigade Combat Team, “Strike”. He joined the Army in 2016 and arrived at Fort Campbell in 2017. Decorations include National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Air Assault Badge.

Austin Peay’s 25th annual APSU Governors Bass Tournament set for May 12th

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – Registration is now open for the 25th annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament, which will be held at 6:00am, Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at Kentucky Lake.

Registration and boat launching will take place at Paris Landing State Park (Tennessee). The pre-registration fee is $120.00 (for up to two people in one boat), but after noon on May 11th, the registration fee rises to $135.00, with boats being launched by order of entry.

The tournament will begin at 6:00am, but all contestants must check in at the Paris Landing Marina between 4:00am-5:30am, with a compulsory meeting at 5:30am.

2017 Wildlife Awards go to Dan Gibbs, Joshua Roberson

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – Dan Gibbs and Joshua Roberson have been honored by being named the 2017 TWRA Wildlife Biologist of the Year and Wildlife Technician of the Year, respectively.

The annual awards are presented by the TWRA Wildlife and Forestry Division. Division Chief Mark Gudlin announced the winners at the January meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.

TWRA Reports Four Boating-Related Fatalities over Labor Day Weekend

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports there were four boating-related fatalities over the 2017 Labor Day holiday period from September 1st-4th.

The fatal incidents occurred on Cherokee Lake, Chickamauga Reservoir, and Kentucky Lake. TWRA is continuing investigation of the incidents.

TWRA boating officers made four boating under the influence (BUI) arrests.

There were four boating-related fatalities over the 2017 Labor Day holiday.

APSU Governors Bass TournamentClarksville, TN – On Saturday, May 13th, 2017 the 24th annual APSU Governors Bass Tournament will be held at Kentucky Lake, with registration and boat launching from Paris Landing (Tennessee) State Park. Last season’s tourney drew nearly 200 boats.

More than $12,000 dollars in prize money will be awarded. Previously, the Top 25 places earned cash prizes but now only the Top 10 places will gain monetary awards, meaning greater cash payouts, respectively, for those positions.

Land Between the Lakes Wildlife Refuges set to open March 16th

 

Land Between the Lakes - LBLLand Between the Lakes, KY/TN – Wildlife refuges in Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area will re-open, Thursday, March 16th, 2017,

“These areas are closed November 1st through March 15th, primarily as waterfowl and eagle refuges. We appreciate public cooperation in protecting these important areas for wildlife,” said Steve Bloemer, Wildlife Program Manager at Land Between the Lakes. “Most wintering eagles and waterfowl have begun migrating back north by early to mid-March, allowing the refuges to be re-opened to public use.”

Land Between the Lakes with Water Trail Project to get assistance from National Park Service

 

Land Between the Lakes - LBLLand Between the Lakes, KY/TN – The National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program selected 11 new communities and partnerships to receive technical and planning assistance to promote the development of new economic opportunities and natural resource conservation.

The National Park Service selected Land Between the Lakes Region Water Trail as one of these 11 projects for Fiscal Year 2017.

Clarksville’s Frank and Connie Fisher win 22nd Annual APSU Governors Bass Tournament

 

APSU Governors Bass TournamentBuchanan, TN – On Saturday, May 14th, the 22nd annual Austin Peay State University Governors Bass Tournament was held on Kentucky Lake. Boats launched from Paris Landing State Park at 6:00am. There were 187 boats competing for $12,000 in prize money.

Although the forecast was for a clear, sunny day, the start of the tournament was anything but. Clouds rolled in, the wind kicked up making for a cold morning with a lot of chop on the water. As the day went on, the clouds departed and the sunny weather promised presented itself.
