Austin Peay Governors Football set for second scrimmage Saturday

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Young players will get the opportunity to shine this Saturday when Austin Peay State University’s football team scrimmages for the second time, 9:30am, in Governors Stadium.

APSU head coach Rick Christophel is planning on using his first-team players as few as two series in the contest before allowing reserves to handle the remainder of the 80-play-plus scrimmage that will precede the 1:00pm, Football Media Day.

Landon Curtis departs Austin Peay Governors Football program

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Redshirt freshman quarterback Jacob Sexton threw two first-half touchdown passes to offset sophomore running back Ean Pemberton’s 107-yard rushing performance as the White team held off the Red team, 14-7, Thursday night, in the Red-White Spring game in Governors Stadium.

Austin Peay Governors Football’s Red-White game set for Thursday

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s football team will culminate spring practice 7:00pm, Thursday, with the Red-White Spring game, in Governors Stadium.

The 69 players were selected through a draft after Tuesday’s practice. Head coach Rick Christophel divided up his 14 seniors and then placed them in charge of the draft.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – In its season finale, Austin Peay’s football team still has something to play for – the coveted Sgt. York Trophy.

The Govs remain in contention for the in-state trophy, needing a win against Tennessee Tech, 1:00pm, Saturday, in order to bring the trophy to Clarksville for the first time.

The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, are in a similar situation. Heading into the final regular-season weekend,  Tennessee Tech is on the verge of their first Ohio Valley Conference football championship since 1975.

Slow start costly as Austin Peay Governors Football fall at Murray State, 56-24

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY – Murray State returned two first-half fumbles for touchdowns in building a 26-0 lead as the Racers defeated Austin Peay State University, 56-24, Saturday afternoon at Roy Stewart Stadium in Ohio Valley Conference football action.

Austin Peay fell to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the OVC. Murray State improved 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the OVC.

It marked the last home performance for eight Govs’ seniors: safety Amius Smith, running back Ryan White, wide receiver Scott Thomas, offensive lineman Devon McVea, offensive tackle James Barker, offensive tackle J.P. Washington, center Tim Schmid and long snapper Nick Newsome. After owning a school-record 26 seniors in 2009, the Govs had half that many (13) in 2010.

The 19-10 loss to Eastern Illinois was APSU’s fourth straight loss. Austin Peay is amidst its fourth straight season in which it has lost three or more games.

Austin Peay Governors lose Homecoming tilt, 19-10

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – For a second straight game, Austin Peay State University’s football team got off to a good start. For the second straight contest, the Governors could not finish what it started.

Austin Peay dominated the first quarter, getting off to a 10-0 lead, but it was Eastern Illinois who dominated the game’s remainder as the Governors fell to the Panthers, 19-10, Saturday afternoon in Ohio Valley Conference action.
