Montgomery County Health CouncilClarksville, TN – For more than two decades, Tennessee’s county health councils have provided critical leadership in bringing people together to tackle pressing issues in their communities. The Montgomery County Health Council will continue this work by leading a County Health Assessments (CHA).

Supported by the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), the Montgomery County Health Council will lead a six-month process to collect and share stories and local data related to Montgomery County.

Montgomery County Health Department Director Joey Smith selected to National Board

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County is pleased to announce the election of Joey Smith, Public Health Director of the Montgomery County Health Department, as a board member of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCO).

Elected by their peers, NACCHO is governed by a 27-member Board of Directors, who serve two-year terms, and is comprised of health officials from around the country. In May of this year, there were 10 open seats and health officials from nearly 3,000 counties across the United States voted for who they wanted to serve.

Montgomery County Health Department CASPER Survey a Success

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Health Department conducted a Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response, also called a CASPER, in our area on Tuesday.

This was completed by teams going door-to-door in 39 previously identified areas and speaking directly with community members about information on the Zika virus and ways to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

“With the first confirmed cases of the Zika virus in an adjoining county, and mosquito season in full swing, it is prudent that we remind the public of ways to prevent mosquito breeding.” said Mayor Durrett.

Montgomery County Health Department encourages Healthy Eating at Clarksville Downtown Market

 

Clarksville Downtown MarketClarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 18th, Clarksville Parks and Recreation held a Health and Fitness Day at the Clarksville Downtown Market. The Montgomery County Health Department had a booth and were giving out samples and the recipe for Citrusy Pico De Galio.

“A couple of times a year, Parks and Recreation invites us to come down to the Downtown Market and encourage healthy eating habits,” said Montgomery County Public Health Director Joey Smith.

The booth was so busy that they ran out of tortilla chips and had to go out for more.

Montgomery County Health Educator Megan Carroll was at the Clarksville Downtown Market this past Saturday handing out samples of freshly made Citrusy Pico De Galio.

Montgomery County urges everyone to take action to prevent Mosquitoes

 

Montgomery County TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett and Montgomery County Public Health Director Joey Smith, this week urged residents and business owners to start “Tip and Toss” and “SWAT” actions to prevent mosquito breeding grounds.

“Mosquito season has started in Tennessee, presenting potential health problems for residents who could be bitten by disease-carrying mosquitoes,” said Mayor Durrett.  “To prevent mosquito breeding spots, we urge residents and business owners to do a cleanup near their homes and establishments, discarding or tipping over items than can unintentionally hold water that mosquitoes can use to lay eggs and multiply.  A mosquito can lay her eggs in something as small as a plastic soda bottle top, so tossing these types of items into the trash could help prevent you or someone else from suffering a mosquito bite.”
