APSU Football’s Mark Hudspeth named OVC Coach of the Year, 11 Govs receive Honors

 

APSU FootballBrentwood, TN – A program-record 11 Austin Peay State University (APSU) football players earned postseason honors from the Ohio Valley Conference, befitting their status as league champions for 2019.

In addition, Mark Hudspeth became the second Austin Peay State University head coach in three seasons to earn Roy Kidd OVC Coach of the Year honors after the Govs won the league and earned the program’s first playoff berth in his first season at the helm.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Football’s defense continues to stifle opponents run game

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team continues to be one of the best run-stopping defenses in the nation, as this past weekend in Macon, GA, the Governors held the Mercer Bears rushing attack to less than 50 yards from scrimmage.

In giving up just 43 net yards from scrimmage on the ground to Mercer, it marks the third straight week the Govs run defense has allowed their opponents less than 60 total rushing yards net in a contest, with APSU giving up 53 yards to North Carolina Central in the season opener on August 29th and 32 yards to Central Arkansas on September 7th.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Coming off its first loss of the season to nationally-ranked Central Arkansas, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) football team looks to bounce back on the road versus high-scoring Mercer.

The Governors (1-1) gave No. 18-ranked Central Arkansas (2-0) all they wanted this past Saturday, at Fortera Stadium, taking the game down to the final seconds before coming up short, 24-16, despite losing starting quarterback Jeremiah Oatsvall to a leg injury on their second drive of the game.

APSU Football begins 2019 Season with 41-10 win over North Carolina Central

 

APSU FootballClarksville, TN – The Mark Hudspeth Era is off to quite the start at Austin Peay State University (APSU).

A 24-point second quarter turned a close contest into demolition, and Austin Peay State University football walked away with its first season-opening win since 2010 in a 41-10 romp against North Carolina Central that doubled as Hudspeth’s first win as Austin Peay head coach—the first Austin Peay coach to emerge victorious in his debut since 2007.
