APSU Governors Baseball’s Reed Harper named to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

 

College Baseball Hall of FameLubbock, TX – Austin Peay State University shortstop Reed Harper was one of 50 players named to the first 2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award Watch List, the College Baseball Hall of Fame announced, Friday.

The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented on June 30th in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s baseball team, which sits atop the Ohio Valley Conference after four weekends, visits second-place Eastern Kentcky for a three-game league set that will prove key for both teams.

The OVC set begins with a 2:00pm (CT), Friday contest at Turkey Hughes Field. The series will continue with a 1:00pm, Saturday contest before concluding at noon, Sunday.

Govs down Colonels in series finale, win second-straight OVC series

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay saw a pair of early leads vanish, but built a third lead and held on for an 8-6 Ohio Valley Conference victory against Eastern Kentucky, Sunday, at Raymond C. Hand Park. The Govs won their second consecutive OVC series, 2-1, for the first time since the 2008 season.

Austin Peay (15-15, 5-3 OVC) led 1-0 after the first and 4-2 after the second inning only to watch Eastern Kentucky wipe out the lead and tie the game 4-4 after the top of the fourth.

Govs settle for doubleheader split with Colonels, Saturday

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s baseball team won the series opener, but could not complete the sweep as it split an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader with Eastern Kentucky, 7-4 and 4-8, Saturday at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The two teams traded body blows in the second inning of the series opener, Austin Peay (14-15, 4-3 OVC) delivering the larger blow, scoring four runs in the frame to take a 4-2 lead. Catcher Matt Wollenzin tied the game with a two-run single and was followed by left fielder Cody Hudson’s triple that gave APSU a 3-2 lead. Third baseman Greg Bachman extended the lead to two runs with his RBI single.

Govs look to end skid against Colonels this weekend

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s third week of Ohio Valley Conference play brings Eastern Kentucky into town for a three-game series, Saturday-Sunday, at Raymond C. Hand Park. The weekend begins with a 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader before concluding with a 1:00pm, Sunday contest.

Austin Peay (13-14, 3-2 OVC) cannot afford to overlook an Eastern Kentucky (9-20, 2-4) squad it has not enjoyed much success against recently. The Colonels have won the last three OVC series between the two teams dating back to the 2007 campaign. In fact, Austin Peay has lost five straight games to Eastern Kentucky and seven of the last nine meetings.
