These are unique circumstances, and responsible and deliberate decisions are being made in consultation with public health authorities. Given the fluid nature of ongoing developments, we will share new, pertinent information as it becomes available.

Long time Tennessee Basketball Coach Pat Summitt passes away

 

Tennessee Mourns Loss Of Iconic Coach

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN –  Legendary Tennessee Lady Vol basketball coach Pat Summitt, mentor and mother-figure to her players; a revered ambassador for her university and state; a trailblazer for women; and a role model for people all over the world passed away Tuesday, June 28th, in Knoxville at the age of 64.

Born Patricia Sue Head on June 14th, 1952 in Clarksville, Tennessee, Summitt arrived at the University of Tennessee for her first job as a 22-year-old physical education teacher and coach in 1974. As it turned out, the move to Knoxville would be the only one she’d make in her career. She leaves a legacy of greatness and grace that will never be forgotten.

Tennessee Volunteers Basketball roll past Army West Point Black Knights 95-80

Armani Moore scores a career-high 29 in win over Black Knights

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A late first-half surge capped by back-to-back baskets from Robert Hubbs III propelled Tennessee to a 95-80 victory over Army West Point Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Armani Moore scored a career-high 29 points in the victory, while Kevin Punter Jr. poured in 26 and Hubbs finished with 14, the fifth time in as many games this season that UT has had at least three players score in double figures. Derek Reese pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds and hit the 3-pointer head coach Rick Barnes promised he could take for reaching a rebounding milestone.

University of Tennessee to retire Candace Parker’s jersey

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee plans to honor legendary women’s basketball player Candace Parker by retiring her jersey during a home game next season, the Tennessee Athletics Department announced Thursday.

Parker, a two-time All-American, will become the sixth Lady Vol player to be permanently honored in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters. Her No. 3 banner will join those for Holly Warlick (No. 22), Chamique Holdsclaw (No. 23), Tamika Catchings (No. 24), Bridgette Gordon (No. 30) and Daedra Charles (No. 32). Lady Vol Head Coach Emeritus Pat Summitt also had a banner raised in her honor this season on January 28th prior to the game with Notre Dame. «Read the rest of this article»

University of Tennessee to retire Dale Ellis’ Jersey in ceremony next year

 

UT VolsKnoxville, TN – The University of Tennessee plans to honor legendary men’s basketball player Dale Ellis by retiring his No. 14 jersey during a home game next season, the Tennessee athletics department announced Thursday.

Ellis – a two-time first-team All-American – will become the fourth player to be permanently honored in the Thompson-Boling Arena rafters. He joins Bernard King (No. 53), Ernie Grunfeld (No. 22) and Allan Houston (No. 20).
