Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Melvin Mercedes provided the offensive heroics for the Nashville Sounds while Ben Bracewell was superb on the mound as they came from behind to defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers 5-4 in 11 innings.

Trailing 4-3 in the 11th inning, Sheldon Neuse squeaked a single past an outstretched Ryan O’Hearn at first base to knot the game at four runs apiece. After a sacrifice bunt from the birthday boy, BJ Boyd moved Neuse to second base, Mercedes came through in a major way. He found the hole on the left side of the infield to drive in Neuse from second and clinch the series-opening win.

Nashville Sounds falls to Omaha Storm Chasers 9-3

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds trailed from start to finish en route to a 9-3 defeat at the hands of the Omaha Storm Chasers Tuesday night. The Sounds dropped to 64-70 on the season with the loss.

The Sounds were unable to take advantage of five walks from Omaha starter, Christian Binford and left the bases loaded without plating a run in each of the first two innings. In total they left 11 runners stranded and went just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Omaha took a 2-0 lead with help from the Sounds defense. In the first inning Frank Schwindel dribbled a ground ball to third base for a potential double play but the ball was thrown away by Sounds second baseman Franklin Barreto, allowing a run to score.

Wendle’s record-breaking 95th double in a Sounds uniform came in the sixth inning. In typical Wendle fashion, he turned a line-drive to right-center into a two-bagger when he hustled into second ahead of the throw.

Wendle broke the record held by Skeeter Barners who notched 94 doubles in 514 games with Nashville. Wendle, who has played parts of three seasons with the Sounds, broke the record in game number 335.
