APSU Lady Govs Track and Field wins Battle of the Cumberland Track Meet

 

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team won its Battle of the Cumberland tri-meet against Murray State and Tennessee Tech, Tuesday, at Governors Stadium.

The Lady Govs topped the charts at 94 team points. The Racers’ 65 points put them ahead of the Golden Eagles’ 36-point tally.

Robinson’s goal moves Lady Govs soccer to OVC semifinals

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMorehead, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer won the program’s first-ever Ohio Valley Conference Tournament game, 1-0, against No. 5 Murray State, Thursday night in first-round action, at Jayne Stadium.

Sophomore Laurena Robinson scored on a ball from freshman Tatiana Ariza, in the 83rd minute, to advance Austin Peay to a semifinal matchup, Friday night, against No. 2 Southeast Missouri. Robinson has been a utility player for the Lady Govs, seeing time in the defense earlier in the season and most recently filling in as a forward.

Lady Govs win five-set battle at Murray State

 

APSU Women’s Volleyball

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMurray, KY – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team won a five-set (18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 16-25, 15-13) Ohio Valley Conference battle against Murray State, Saturday, at Racer Arena.

Murray State (10-13, 6-6 OVC) opened the match in impressive fashion, winning the first set wire-to-wire. The Lady Govs scored five consecutive points to tie the set, 15-15, but could not gain a lead. The Racers closed the set with five straight points, including a pair of kills by both Sara Hayden and Ashley Nenninger, to post a 25-18 win.

Lady Govs victorious in home and OVC opener

Austin Peay State University GovernorsSophomore Nikki Doyle recorded a career-high 23 kills to lead Austin Peay State University women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (27-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22) Ohio Valley Conference victory against Murray State, Friday night, at the Dunn Center.

Nikki Doyle ( Courtesy: Austin Peay Sports Information )Austin Peay (10-1, 1-0 OVC), which won its 10th consecutive match, won its home and conference opener courtesy a 67-kill performance – two shy of the team’s season high – and a .241 attack percentage.

The first set was a combination of scoring runs by each team. Austin Peay (10-1, 1-0 OVC) opened with a 7-3 run as Doyle recorded three kills and senior Jessica Mollman added two kills. Murray State answered with a 10-6 run sparked by three Ashley Nenninger kills. The Racers later used a 9-3 run to build a 22-18 advantage as five different hitters recorded a kill during the burst.  Austin Peay fought back, using consecutive kills by junior Ilyanna Hernandez to force a 23-23 tie. After trading points to get to 25-25, the Lady Govs got consecutive kills from Hernandez and Mollman to seal the set, 27-25. «Read the rest of this article»

Lady Govs open home slate with OVC-openers against Murray State and UT Martin

After a highly successful season-opening road swing, Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team opens its home and Ohio Valley Conference schedules with a pair of weekend contests. The Lady Govs host long-time rival Murray State in a 7:00pm, Friday contest before UT Martin visits for a 2:00pm, Saturday match. Both contests will be played at the Dunn Center and admission is free to all fans.

Austin Peay completed its 10-match road swing with an impressive 9-1 record. The Lady Govs finished second at both the Mississippi State Maroon Classic and the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational before winning the East Tennessee Buccaneer Classic, last weekend.

Sophomore Nikki Doyle and junior Ilyanna Hernandez paced the Lady Govs offense through the season’s opening 10 matches. Doyle leads the OVC with 3.60 kills per set while Hernandez is third among conference hitters with 3.31 kills per set. However, the offense has remained balanced with the team’s five starting hitters each recording a 10-plus kill outing this season. In addition, senior Taylor Skinner leads the league with a .350 attack percentage while junior Kayla Grantham is fourth with a .292 attack percentage.
