D-Day Remembered by Customs House Museum & Cultural Center with New Exhibition

 

Customs House Museum & Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – In recognition of the upcoming 75th anniversary, the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center has brought out artifacts from its collection, supplemented by items from private collectors. The exhibition displayed in the museum’s Memory Lane gallery includes both American and German artifacts.

One of the largest amphibious military assaults in history was the D-day invasion.

Tennessee National Guard’s Jeff Holmes selected as next Deputy Commanding General, First U.S. Army

Tennessee National GuardNashville, TN – Tennessee National Guard Major General Jeff Holmes has been tapped as the next Deputy Commanding General, First U.S. Army headquartered in Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. He is currently assigned as the Deputy Adjutant General, Tennessee National Guard.

The First Army is the oldest and longest established field army of the United States Army activated in France in 1918. In World War II First Army’s troops were the first to land on Omaha and Utah beaches in Normandy.

USS LST-325 begins Tours in Clarksville

 

USS LST 325

Clarksville, TN – LST-325 opened for tours in Clarksville on Thursday, September 7th, 2017 at the McGregor Park Boat Ramp. The ship will be available for tours September 7th-15th.

The LST (Landing Ship, Tank) is a floating monument to the past. The ship was used in various missions in World War II including the invasion of Sicily and the Normandy invasion. Visitors are able to climb aboard and explore the ship as the crew provides a glimpse into her past.

Military enthusiasts, history buffs, and school groups will learn how it was instrumental in battles dating back to World War II.

101st Airborne Division Week of the Eagles starts August 10th

Fort Campbell's Week of the EaglesFort Campbell, KY – The “Screaming Eagles” of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) will host the 2012 Week of the Eagles, August 10th-17th, 2012, at Fort Campbell, KY, to reflect upon all that the division’s Soldiers have achieved since the unit was created with no history, but with a “Rendezvous with Destiny.”

“Week of the Eagles is a time for 101st Soldiers of the past and present to come together and reflect on the great legacy of the 101st Airborne Division,” said Maj. Gen. James C. McConville, commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

“This year is particularly significant because it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the division. We invite all Soldiers, families and friends to participate and experience Week of the Eagles 2012.”
