APSU Basketball roars back from 19 down to beat Tennessee State 74-72 in OVC Tournament

APSU Men's BasketballNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University rallied from a 19-point second-half to deficit stun No. 4 seeded Tennessee State, 74-72, Thursday night in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament in Municipal Auditorium. It was one of the most remarkable comebacks in APSU Governors basketball history.

The victory vaults the Governors into Friday’s tourney semifinals against No. 1 seed Belmont, 6:30pm.

APSU Governors Basketball shoots poorly in 66-52 loss at Tennessee State Tigers

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – For the second time in Ohio Valley Conference play Chris Horton picked up two quick fouls and for the second time the Governors were unable to recover from their star player’s absence. As a result, APSU lost its second straight OVC game—their first league road game.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A 9-0 run late in the second half helped to complete a dramatic come-from-behind victory for the Tennessee Volunteers, 74-69, over the Tennessee State Tigers on Tuesday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Kevin Punter Jr. led UT (7-5) with 23 points, including a pair of free throws to seal the Vols final pre-conference game of the season in the final seconds. Detrick Mostella scored 16 points, the third time in his last three games that the sophomore has scored 13 points or more.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – The 2015 calendar shuts for Tennessee basketball when it takes on Tennessee State on Tuesday at Thompson-Boling Arena in the final pre-conference contest for both programs. The Volunteers and Tigers tip off at 1:00pm ET (12:00pm CT) on the SEC Network.

The Vols (6-5) are facing its second in-state foe in as many games, coming off a 76-67 win over ETSU last week. A battle throughout, Tennessee trailed the Buccaneers by four with less than five minutes to play. What followed was a 15-2 Tennessee run — including a 9-0 spurt over the final two minutes — to seal the victory and keep the Vols a perfect 6-0 at home this season.
