Austin Peay State University Lady GovsBirmingham, AL – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team fell 5-2, Saturday, to UAB in a match played outdoors at the Samford Tennis Complex.

Originally scheduled to be played indoors, the spring-like weather prompted the move which happened to be the Lady Govs first time to play outdoors this spring.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis let the Evansville Purple Aces slide by them

 

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis fell 4-3 to Evansville, Friday, at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.

The Lady Govs couldn’t overcome dropping the doubles point and ended up one win shy on the singles side. Austin Peay falls to 0-3 overall, while the win improved the Purple Aces to 1-0.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis hosts Evansville Friday afternoon

 

APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Tennis

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team host Evansville, 5:00pm, Friday, at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.

The Lady Govs have been tested by a pair of nationally recognized programs in Vanderbilt and Memphis to open the season. With a young and relatively new team, head coach Malik Tabet knows the experience needed to improve only comes through playing matches.

Austin Peay Women’s Tennis’ Tomic and Carre near doubles upset but fall to the Memphis Tigers

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team dropped its home opener, 7-0, to Memphis, Friday afternoon at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.

It was the second consecutive match in which head coach Malik Tabet pitted his young team against an experienced, highly-regarded opponent and Tabet remains adamant that results are not indicative of how the Lady Govs performed.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis set for home opener on Friday

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team opens its home schedule, 1:30pm, Friday, when it host Memphis at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.

After a telling loss at Vanderbilt, Monday, the Lady Govs have used the past week to emphasis on lessons learned. With a young lineup and few practices through the early part of the spring semester, Austin Peay looks for continued improvement against Tigers.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis lose to No. 15 Vanderbilt

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team opened the spring season with a  7-0 loss at No. 15 Vanderbilt, Monday.

Heading into the match, head coach Malik Tabet was adamant that he was not looking for a result in the match, but expecting to evaluate his young team. With only senior Vanja Tomic and sophomore Andra Cornea returning, the Lady Govs fielded a lineup with four freshmen against the nationally-ranked Commodores.

Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis open the season at Vanderbilt

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team opens the 2011-12 season with a 3:00pm, Monday, match at Southeastern Conference Vanderbilt.

The Lady Govs return All-Ohio Valley Conference selection Vanja Tomic, along with sophomore Andra Cornea from last season’s team. The rest of Austin Peay’s lineup consists of new arrivals, including freshman Weronika Kurka who played in two fall tournaments.

Kurka joins Lady Govs tennis program for 2012

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – After a challenging 2011 season, Austin Peay State University women’s tennis coach Malik Tabet began his rebuilding process by signing Weronika Kurka, of Poland, to a National Letter of Intent. Kurka is the Lady Govs first signee for 2012.

Kurka is a talented player who has been ranked as high as 315 in the Tennis Europe Junior Circuit. A strong singles player with a good footwork, Kurka also owns a strong doubles game. Kurka is billed as an aggressive player with good decision-making skills. «Read the rest of this article»
