Austin Peay State University sports legend Tom Morgan passes away at age of 87

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Tom Morgan, the multi-sport standout considered one of the greatest pure athletes in Austin Peay State University (APSU) history, passed away Friday morning, July 17th, 2020, at the age of 87.

A 1978 inductee into the Austin Peay State University Athletics Hall of Fame, which was the first full class to be enshrined, Morgan was a standout on the basketball court and on the diamond, setting numerous records in his heyday.

Austin Peay State University Men’s Basketball adds Rod Clark to staff

 

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) head men’s basketball coach Matt Figger is pleased to announce Rod Clark as the program’s new assistant coach.

Clark joins the Governors after a year at Illinois-Chicago, where he was part of a staff that led the Flames to an 18-17 mark overall and an appearance in the Horizon League Championship game.

Clarksville Christian School names Trenton Hassell Lady Centurion Head Basketball Coach

 

Clarksville Christian SchoolClarksville, TN – Clarksville Christian School is excited to welcome Clarksville native and Veteran NBA player Trenton Hassell as the new Head Basketball Coach of the championship Lady Centurion Basketball team. Hassell is a distinguished Hall of Fame player for the Austin Peay State University (APSU) mens’ basketball team, and he is one of only seven APSU athletes to have their jerseys retired.

After college, Hassell spent 10 years in the NBA. He was the first pick in the second round of the 2001 NBA Draft, signing with the Chicago Bulls.

APSU Basketball’s Terry Taylor to return for final season

 

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Rising Austin Peay State University (APSU) men’s basketball senior forward Terry Taylor has withdrawn his name from consideration for the 2020 NBA Draft and will return to Clarksville for the 2020-21 season.

This declaration came after more than a month in the evaluation process, which allows early entrants to receive feedback from league personnel while retaining eligibility.

APSU Athletes continue success in classroom during Coronavirus pandemic

 

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) student-athletes continued their recent string of success in the classroom, the department announcing its 297 athletes combined to post a 3.292 grade-point average during the Spring 2020 semester.

It is the sixth consecutive semester the APSU athletics department has posted a 3.0 GPA or better and the eighth time in department history. In addition, each of the 15 varsity teams recorded a 3.0 GPA for the second consecutive semester.

“I must commend all of our student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom,” said APSU Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison.
