Nashville Sounds defeat Omaha Storm Chasers in extra innings, 5-4

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Melvin Mercedes provided the offensive heroics for the Nashville Sounds while Ben Bracewell was superb on the mound as they came from behind to defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers 5-4 in 11 innings.

Trailing 4-3 in the 11th inning, Sheldon Neuse squeaked a single past an outstretched Ryan O’Hearn at first base to knot the game at four runs apiece. After a sacrifice bunt from the birthday boy, BJ Boyd moved Neuse to second base, Mercedes came through in a major way. He found the hole on the left side of the infield to drive in Neuse from second and clinch the series-opening win.

Iowa Cubs blank Nashville Sounds, 2-0

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – A strong start by James Naile wasn’t enough for the Nashville Sounds in a 2-0 loss to the Iowa Cubs Sunday afternoon at Principal Park. 

Naile tossed seven innings and limited the Cubs to two runs on just four hits. It was Naile’s eighth quality start of the season, and his first outing since his 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game appearance on Wednesday.

Nashville’s offense never materialized and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They left the bases loaded in the fourth, and runners on in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Nashville Sounds hand Iowa Cubs 5-3 loss at First Tennessee Park

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Ben Bracewell threw six shutout innings and the Nashville Sounds got another home run from Franklin Barreto in a 5-3 win in front of 8,320 fans at First Tennessee Park Sunday night.

Bracewell limited the Cubs to just two hits – a single in the first and a single in the third. The right-hander walked a pair and struck out four in his fourth quality start of the season (first with Nashville).

The offense supplied Bracewell with some early support when shortstop Franklin Barreto launched a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning. It was Barreto’s ninth of the season with Nashville and second in as many games.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN -The Nashville Sounds powered their way to a 5-3 win over the Iowa Cubs Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 10,904 at First Tennessee Park.

The Sounds jumped on Iowa’s Jen-Ho Tseng early as Ramón Laureano launched a solo home run to lead off the game. Steve Lombardozzi then ripped a ground rule double to the deepest part of the ballpark, right-center field. Three batters later Franklin Barreto flexed his muscles by powering a two-run home run the opposite way and push Nashville’s lead to 4-0.

Nashville Sounds drop doubleheader to Omaha Storm Chasers

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NB – The Omaha Storm Chasers swept the Nashville Sounds in a doubleheader at Werner Park Monday night. The bats went quiet as Nashville was shut out in game one, 7-0, before dropping game two, 6-3.

Omaha starter Jake Kalish was the story of game one as the left-hander blanked the Sounds in a complete-game shutout. The southpaw scattered seven hits and induced three ground ball double plays to help his cause.

The lone bright spot for Nashville came immediately when Nick Martini singled on the first pitch of the game to extend his on-base streak to 61 games.

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NB -The Nashville Sounds took care of the Omaha Storm Chasers 7-1 in Sunday’s matinee to even up the five-game series.

Raul Alcantara took on his biggest workload of the season as he logged a six innings in his third start of the campaign. In those six frames he allowed just one run, which came on a solo home run in the second inning from Omaha’s Frank Schwindel. The 70 pitches thrown by Alcantara were a season-high.

The Sounds were all over the base paths all afternoon as they tallied 14 hits and put a runner on base in each inning.

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK -The Nashville Sounds notched a pair of one-run wins to sweep a doubleheader at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark Wednesday night. Nashville beat Oklahoma City 5-4 in game one before blanking the Dodgers, 1-0, in game two.

Nick Martini extended his on-base streak to 57 games by reaching safely in both contests. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in game one and went 1-for-3 with the go-ahead run-scoring single in game two.

Eric Jokisch started for Nashville in game one and picked up the win with five solid innings.

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – Jorge Mateo broke a 4-4 tie with an RBI triple in the top of the 9th inning on Tuesday night and propelled the Nashville Sounds to a 5-4 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Sounds.

The Sounds trailed 2-0 in the 5th when Mateo started the team’s scoring by singling off Brock Stewart to score Sheldon Neuse. Then Melvin Mercedes and Nick Martini connected on consecutive RBI triples, and Ramon Laureano grounded out to score Martini and give the Sounds a 4-2 lead. Neuse has seven multi-hit games in his last 11, and Martini now has reached base safely in 55 consecutive games as a Sound.

Nashville Sounds fall to Albuquerque Isotopes, 3-2

Nashville SoundsAlbuquerque, NM -After combining for 45 runs on 58 hits in the first two games of the series, the Nashville Sounds and Albuquerque Isotopes came back to earth Monday night as the Isotopes edged the Sounds 3-2. The two ball clubs mustered just five runs on 15 hits.

Nashville’s bullpen was asked to pitch 7 2/3 innings after the game began with a bit of controversy. Sounds starter Ben Bracewell was ejected after recording one out and throwing just three pitches. On his third pitch he threw the ball behind Albuquerque’s Raimel Tapia and was tossed, prompting the Sounds to go to their bullpen much earlier than anticipated. Ryan Dull entered the game and allowed a double from Tapia and a run-scoring single from Josh Fuentes as the Isotopes jumped out to a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly from Garrett Hampson doubled Albuquerque’s lead in the second.

Nashville Sounds lose explosive game to Albuquerque Isotopes, 17-12

Nashville SoundsAlbuquerque, NM – The Nashville Sounds pitching staff scrounged together nine innings with a depleted bullpen and fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes 17-12 Sunday night.

The offense gave the Sounds a chance by plating 12 runs, but the pitching staff matched a season-high by yielding 17 runs on the night.

In a spot start Raul Alcantara allowed four runs in two innings, Jake Sanchez gave up one run in his lone inning of work, Danny Coulombe surrendered four runs, one earned, in his 1 2/3 innings, Dean Kiekhefer put together 2 1/3 innings and yielded three runs, and infielder Melvin Mercedes tossed the final frame and was touched for five runs.
