Nashville’s Kevin Mattison Homers; Brad Mills Logs Quality Start in Loss
Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds could not overcome a few ill-timed mistakes and a solid start from Iowa Cubs pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada in a 4-2 loss Tuesday afternoon at Greer Stadium.
Trailing by three in the ninth, outfielder Kevin Mattison narrowed the deficit to 4-2 when he led off with a solo home run. The blast was his fifth of the season. Later in the inning, the Sounds brought the winning run to the plate following two-out singles from Jeff Bianchi and Hector Gomez, but Iowa reliever Blake Parker struck out Sean Halton to end the game.
Herrera Goes 4-for-5 With Four RBIs For Nashville In Losing Effort
Des Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds squandered an early eight-run lead en route to suffering a heartbreaking 12-11 loss to the Iowa Cubs on Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.
Nashville (20-17) — which has led in eight of its 12 road losses this season — held leads of 8-0 and 11-4 in the game but did most of its damage early, scoring just once in the final six innings against the Iowa bullpen as the I-Cubs mounted their rally. Iowa scored five runs in the sixth and three in the eighth to complete its improbable comeback.
Des Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds were on the short end of a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Iowa Cubs on Monday evening at Principal Park in the opener of a four-game series.
The loss was Nashville’s third in a row after opening the season with consecutive wins.
Eugenio Velez (2-for-4) continued his strong start to the season for the Sounds, swatting a one-out solo homer off I-Cubs starter Tsuyoshi Wada in the second inning to spot the visitors a 1-0 lead. Velez has hit safely in each of his four contests (7-for-13, .538) after concluding the 2013 campaign with a 22-game hitting streak.
Des Moines, IA – Cubs outfielder Brad Snyder hit a game-winning, bases-loaded single off the left field wall with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the division-rival Iowa Cubs a 5-4 win over the Nashville Sounds in the finale of a four-game series on Thursday night at Principal Park.
Pinch hitter Chris Robinson opened the 11th frame with a single off Mike McClendon and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and infield groundout. McClendon walked the next two hitters before allowing the game-winning hit to Snyder.
The defeat gave the Sounds (70-70) a series split and 11-5 season series win over the Cubs.
Des Moines, IA – The Nashville Sounds opened their season-ending road trip with an 8-5 loss, as the division-rival Iowa Cubs scored five runs in the seventh inning to come back and win on Monday evening at Principal Park.
It was the 22nd loss on the road after leading this season, as Nashville (68-69) entered the bottom of the seventh inning with a 5-3 lead.
Right fielder Caleb Gindl had three hits while right fielder Brandon Boggs and catcher Martin Maldonado each hit two-run home runs in the loss.
Boggs gave the Sounds a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. After Gindl hit a two-out infield single, Boggs crushed a two-run homer over the left field wall, his ninth of the season.
Nashville Turns Triple Play In Exciting Finale Victory
Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds ended their homestand on a high note on Friday evening, posting a 5-1 victory over the Iowa Cubs in front of 8,181 fans at Greer Stadium.
With the win, Nashville (23-31) gained a split of the four-game series against their division rivals and finished its homestand with a 5-3 mark.
Three Sounds hurlers (Mark DiFelice, Chase Wright, Sean Green) combined to hold Iowa to three hits on the evening, while the 6-7-8 hitters carried the load for Nashville offense. Mike Rivera, Caleb Gindl, and Taylor Green combined for a 6-for-11 evening with four RBIs and two runs scored.
