Nashville Sounds roar back to take 11-8 Win from Salt Lake Bees

Nashville SoundsSalt Lake City, UT -The Nashville Sounds scored three runs in the ninth and four runs in the 11th to cap a dramatic come-from-behind 11-8 win over the Salt Lake Bees Monday night at Smith’s Ballpark.

The four-hour, 28-minute marathon featured 13 pitchers, 31 hits, 15 walks and saw the two teams combine to go 17-for-50 with runners in scoring position.

Nashville trailed 5-0 early as Salt Lake chased starter Daniel Mengden in the bottom of the first inning after four runs and 41 pitches. Six Nashville relievers combined to limit the Bees to four runs over the next 10-plus innings to keep the Sounds alive.

Nashville SoundsSalt Lake City, UT – The Nashville Sounds came from behind to topple the Salt Lake Bees 9-5 Sunday night at Smith’s Ballpark. The win snapped a season-long four-game losing streak for the Sounds.

Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, the Sounds used an unconventional play to take the lead. With two outs in the inning Brett Vertigan gave the Sounds the spark they needed. His double chased Salt Lake starter Dylan Unsworth from the game.

Unsworth’s replacement, Ryan Clark entered and promptly plunked Melvin Mercedes. Ramón Laureano then drew a walk to load the bases.

Nashville Sounds split doubleheader with Oklahoma City Dodgers

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds and Oklahoma City Dodgers split a doubleheader in front of a sellout crowd 11,130 fans at First Tennessee Park Saturday night.

After falling 6-1 in game one, the Sounds returned the favor with a 4-0 win in game two. Liam Hendriks, Dean Kiekhefer, Ryan Dull and Josh Lucas combined to shut out the Dodgers on five hits.

Hendriks started for the first time this year and tossed two innings before being relieved by Kiekhefer. The southpaw tossed three scoreless innings and picked up his sixth win of the season. Dull struck out the side in the sixth before handing it over to Lucas who finished the win.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Nashville Sounds designated hitter Anthony Garcia knocked in eight runs in an 11-1 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers in front of 8,476 fans at First Tennessee Park Tuesday night.

Garcia’s big game started in the first inning when he gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead with a groundout. He drove in Steve Lombardozzi who tripled to the gap in right-center.

The Sounds sent 11 to the plate in a seven-run second inning. Jorge Mateo started the frame with a walk and promptly stole second base. He scored on a base hit to right-center by Brett Vertigan.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Ben Bracewell threw six shutout innings and the Nashville Sounds got another home run from Franklin Barreto in a 5-3 win in front of 8,320 fans at First Tennessee Park Sunday night.

Bracewell limited the Cubs to just two hits – a single in the first and a single in the third. The right-hander walked a pair and struck out four in his fourth quality start of the season (first with Nashville).

The offense supplied Bracewell with some early support when shortstop Franklin Barreto launched a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning. It was Barreto’s ninth of the season with Nashville and second in as many games.

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK -The Nashville Sounds notched a pair of one-run wins to sweep a doubleheader at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark Wednesday night. Nashville beat Oklahoma City 5-4 in game one before blanking the Dodgers, 1-0, in game two.

Nick Martini extended his on-base streak to 57 games by reaching safely in both contests. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in game one and went 1-for-3 with the go-ahead run-scoring single in game two.

Eric Jokisch started for Nashville in game one and picked up the win with five solid innings.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Honky Tonks were stunned by the Round Rock Dance Halls 2-1 in 10 innings Saturday night in front of 11,038 fans in Music City. Round Rock’s victory secured the Dance Halls the coveted Boot Trophy in the Battle for the Boot Series.

The Honky Tonks pitching staff was cruising through 26 outs but Bobby Wahl yielded a solo home run to Round Rock’s Drew Robinson, which knotted the game at one run apiece and sent the game to extra innings. Wahl blew his first save of the season as he allowed a game-tying two-out home run to Drew Robinson in the top of the ninth inning. The right-hander was a perfect seven for seven in save opportunities entering Saturday’s game.

Nashville Honky Tonks late error costly in 3-2 loss to Round Rock Dance Halls

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN -The Round Rock Dance Halls took advantage of an eighth inning error and topped the Nashville Honky Tonks, 3-2, in front of a sellout crowd of 11,071 at First Tennessee Park Friday night.

With two outs and the game even at 2-2 in the top of the eighth, Dance Halls first baseman Tommy Joseph hit a bouncer to Nashville shortstop Jorge Mateo who let go of an errant throw to allow Joseph second base. The miscue came back to hurt when Andy Ibanez followed with a go-ahead, run-scoring single to give Round Rock a 3-2 lead.
