Nashville Sounds beat Sacramento River Cats 2-1 for 6th Straight Win

 

Right-hander Matches Career-Best Seven Innings

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Daniel Mengden continued his torrid stretch and delivered seven stellar innings to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 2-1 win over the Sacramento River Cats in front of 5,492 fans Friday night at First Tennessee Park.

It’s the sixth consecutive win for the Sounds who are now three games above .500 at 22-19 and sit in first place in the American South Division. They’ve won eight of their last nine games at home.

Mengden’s last three outings have been seven inning starts. Since being promoted from Double-A Midland on May 2nd, he has allowed two earned runs in 27 innings. Between Midland and Nashville, he has allowed a total of four earned runs in 50 innings.

Jake Smolinksi homers to give Nashville Sounds 6-5 win over Sacramento River Cats

 

Nashville Extends Season-Long Winning Streak to Five Games

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Jake Smolinski hit a go-ahead solo homer in the eighth inning and Chad Pinder had a perfect night to guide the Nashville Sounds to a thrilling 6-5 win over the Sacramento River Cats in front of 7,407 fans Thursday night at First Tennessee Park.

With the scored tied 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Smolinski hit the third pitch of the inning from Steven Okert over the center field wall to give the Sounds (21-19) a 6-5 lead.

The blast came just moments after the River Cats (16-25) plated two runs on three consecutive two-out hits in the top of the inning to even the game.

Nashville’s Matt Clark Goes 2-for-4 To Extends Hit Streak

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – A tidy start from pitcher Jay Jackson was not enough for the Nashville Sounds (72-61), who fell to the Fresno Grizzlies 3-0 at Greer Stadium on Friday night in front of 8,014 fans.

Jackson (0-3) rebounded from a pair of rocky outings by allowing just one run in five innings on three hits while striking out six. He exited the game after issuing a leadoff walk to begin the top of the sixth, which would come around to score after Jose De La Torre allowed an RBI single to Jarrett Parker.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds (72-60) split their doubleheader with the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium, dropping game one 8-4 and winning the nightcap 7-0.

The 8-4 defeat in the opener marked the first time in nine contests that Nashville had lost in doubleheader action at Greer this season.

Fresno left fielder Juan Perez (3-for-3) spotted the visitors a 1-0 lead with a one-out solo homer off Ariel Pena in the top of the first inning, the outfielder’s seventh big fly of the season.
