Govs add closer Tyler Rogers to 2012 Roster

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team has signed its closer for the 2012 season, adding Tyler Rogers, of Littleton, CO, to a national letter of intent it announced, Monday.

Rogers, a 6-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, is one of the best closers in the National Junior College Athletic Association, ranking third nationally with 10 saves for head coach Chris Finnegan. He also has a 5-1 record with a 1.62 ERA in 26 appearances this season, compiling 41 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head coach Gary McClure has announced Brett Carlson, of South Bend, IN, has signed a letter of intent.

Carlson, a 6-1 shortstop and pitcher, opened his 2011 season at Riley High School with a 3-for-3, four-RBI outing that included two home runs and a triple. He finished his junior campaign with a .321 batting average, 15 RBI and eight stolen bases. «Read the rest of this article»

Bat Govs add two more to 2012 squad

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team continued its fall signing period efforts as Ryan Quick, of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Reid Mathews, of Kingsport, signed national letters of intent, Wednesday.

Quick, a 6-0, 170-pound right-handed pitcher, is currently at Rend Lake (IL) College. He prepped at Mt. Vernon Township High School where he played shortstop and pitched. He compiled a 4.06 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched, mostly as a reliever. At the plate, Quick batted .346 with a .467 on-base percentage added by 24 walks. He also had five triples and 12 stolen bases during his senior campaign. Quick was a three-sport prep athlete, earning conference “Most Valuable Player” honors in soccer and was a starter on the basketball team.

Bat Govs begin fall signing period with two Columbia State additions

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team opened its fall signing period with the addition of two right-handed pitchers currently toiling at Columbia State Community College. The Govs received national letters of intent from Casey Delgado, of Miami, FL, and Clint Wright, of Lawrenceburg, TN, who will join the 2012 squad.

Delgado, a 5-11, 175-pound right-hander, posted a 4-3 mark last season at Columbia State, finishing with a 3.30 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 60 innings. He prepped at Miami’s Palmetto High School where he compiled a 16-3 career record with a 1.49 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 140 innings pitched. He was a second-team All-Florida selection as a senior after earning third-team all-state honors as a junior. He was twice named first-team All-Dade County.
