Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam Forms Working Group To Review School Safety, Make Immediate Safety Recommendations To Enhance Security

 

Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson named to Governor’s School Safety Working Group

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has formed a working group of leaders from the executive branch, General Assembly, safety, education and mental health to immediately begin reviewing school safety in Tennessee and provide recommendations to enhance the security of school children.

 While all schools in Tennessee currently have safety plans in place, the Governor’s School Safety Working Group will convene this week to review the policies, procedures and process of developing and implementing those plans, as well as other school safety measures, including communication and collaboration among law enforcement, educators and mental health professionals.

Halloween Enforcement and Safety Tips from Tennessee Highway Patrol and Tennessee Highway Safety Office

 

Tennessee Highway Patrol - THPNashville, TN – The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) and Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) are partnering together for a safe Halloween. The THP will plan for increased visibility and enforcement efforts on Halloween to ensure a safe and happy holiday for all Tennesseans.

There were four people killed on Halloween night per the Tennessee’s Integrated Traffic Analysis Network (TITAN) during the 2013-2015 time periods. Two of the four fatal crashes involved drunk drivers.

“There is typically a dramatic increase in pedestrian traffic on Halloween. It is important for us to remind motorists to slow down and watch for children on all roadways. This is a time of good family fun. However, children, parents and motorists must remember that safety comes first,” Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner David Purkey said.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam Names David Purkey Commissioner of Safety and Homeland Security

 

Purkey Has Served as Homeland Security Advisor for Past Five Years

Tennessee State GovernmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam announced the appointment of David Purkey as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security beginning September 1st, 2016.

Purkey, 57, has served as the department’s assistant commissioner and homeland security advisor since 2011. Under his leadership, the Office of Homeland Security has transformed into a proactive agency, overseeing school security plans, training citizens and law enforcement agencies in active shooter response, and leading the state’s efforts to combat cybercrime.

Tennessee Department of Health says Hypothermia is a Significant Health Threat

The condition occurs when the body’s core temperature drops to 95° or lower and its effects can be deadly.

Tennessee Agencies prepare for Winter Storm, Urge Tennesseans to Avoid Unnecessary Road Travel

 

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland SecurityNashville, TN – The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) urge citizens to avoid unnecessary road travel on Monday as the state prepares for a severe winter storm. Motorists who must drive on Monday are advised to check local forecasts and road conditions before travelling.

Middle Tennessee will be under a Winter Storm Warning starting at 9:00pm, CST, Sunday until 6:00am, CST, Monday. The National Weather Service is forecasting a wintry mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain at Tennessee’s border with Alabama. Along Tennessee’s border with Kentucky, six inches to 10 inches of snow is possible.

Clarksville Police Department’s Lt Steve Warren Recognized as Top Liasion Officer for Tennessee

 

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police Department’s Lt Steve Warren was recently recognized as the Top Terrorism Liaison Officer in the State of Tennessee for 2011.
