Govs cross country to compete at NCAA South Regional, Saturday

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team continues its postseason schedule with the NCAA South Regional Championships 10-kilometer race beginning at 10:45am, Saturday at Veterans Park in Birmingham, AL.

The Governors will look to maintain an effort that led to a fifth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, October 30th. It was their best finish at the OVC finale since 1999. They will have their hands full at the regional with 32 teams competing, including No. 6 Florida and No. 25 Alabama. The Crimson Tide is the defending South Regional champion, winning by 25 points, the Govs finished 24th in last season’s event.

Langat leads Govs to best OVC finish since 1999

 

APSU Men’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – Junior Enock Langat finished 11th to lead Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Cross Country Championships, Saturday morning, at Southern Hills Golf Course.

Langat completed the eight-kilometer course in 26:11.21 and finished on the second-team All-OVC roster. He is the first Govs runner to receive All-OVC honors since Lewis Delfin received all-conference honors in 1998. Eastern Kentucky’s Soufiane Bouchikhi won the men’s championship with a time of 24:56.73.

Langat, Govs ready for OVC Championships, Saturday

 

APSU Men’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Junior Enock Langat and the Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team will travel eastward to compete in the 9:45am, Saturday, eight-kilometer Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Cross Country Championships hosted by Tennessee Tech at Southern Hills Golf Course in Cookeville.

Langat will look to cap a strong 2010 campaign by finishing among the top 14 at the championship and earning All-OVC recognition. He has paced the Govs in all six races this season, leading the team to the finish line, including a 17th-place overall finish in the 328-man Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic’s Blue Race, October 2nd.

Langat’s sixth-place finish paces Govs

 

APSU Men’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsOwensboro, KY – Junior Enock Langat finished sixth to lead Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team at the Fast Cats Classic, Saturday, at Yellow Creek Park.

Langat complete the eight-kilometer course in 25:48.81, finishing sixth out of 70 runners. He was 39 seconds off the lead pace set by Southern Indiana’s Dustin Emerick, who won the event with a time of 25:09.82.

Langat leads Govs at Louisville

 

APSU Men’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsLouisville, KY – As has been the case all season, junior Enock Langat led the Austin Peay men’s cross country team with a 17th-place finish in the blue race of the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, Saturday, at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

Austin Peay finished 25th in the 34-team blue race as Langat and sophomore Geofrey Kosgei posted the team’s only top-50 finishes in the 328-man field. The Govs finished behind a surprising Morehead State squad that finished 10th, ahead of regionally ranked Kentucky.

Govs start season’s second half at Louisville

 

APSU Men’s Cross Country

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team will continue its efforts to improve at the eight-kilometer distance when they travel to the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission for the 11:00am, Saturday, eight-kilometer men’s blue race at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.

Junior Enock Langat has led the Govs in each of the season’s first four races and slashed more than a minute off of his eight-kilometer time at last week’s Memphis Twilight where he finished 27th in the 264-man field. Sophomore Geofrey Kosgei has run second in each of the two previous races and slashed two minutes off his eight-kilometer time.

Govs fail to make progress at Brooks Memphis Twilight event

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMemphis, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team continued to have difficulty at the eight-kilometer distance, finishing 17th at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic hosted by Christian Brothers at Mike Rose Stadium.

Austin Peay scored 447 points to finish 17th in the 30-team field and third out of the four Ohio Valley Conference teams in the field. Eastern Kentucky won the event with 53 points. «Read the rest of this article»

Govs seek 8K effort at Brooks Memphis Twilight event

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – A week after a disappointing finish in its first eight-kilometer race, Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team will tackle the eight-kilometer course beginning at 9:00pm, Saturday, in the Brooks Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic, hosted by Christian Brothers at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

The Govs faltered late at the Old Timers Classic last weekend, surrendering several positions in the final 2.5-kilometers and falling behind three of the four other Ohio Valley Conference teams competing.

Govs falter late at Old Timers Classic

Austin Peay State University GovernorsBowling Green, KY – In its first test at the eight-kilometer distance, Austin Peay State University men’s cross country team showed there is plenty of work to be done, finishing sixth at the Old Timers Classic, Saturday morning, at Kereiakes Park.

The teams were scored in a dual format, with each team’s placing compared to each of the other teams. The Govs were only able to pass Tennessee Tech in the seven-team field.
