U.S. SenateWashington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Education Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) made the following statement on the fourth anniversary of the Every Student Succeeds Act becoming law:

“Four years ago, President Barack Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act, calling it a ‘Christmas Miracle.’ Today, states are taking advantage of what the Wall Street Journal called ‘the largest devolution of federal control to the states in a quarter-century.”

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Mackenzie Kelly is the fourth straight Austin Peay State University student to be picked to represent Tennessee at the annual National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Collegiate Advocacy Summit starting today in Washington, D.C.

She and students from across the country are gathering to advocate for music education, specifically the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, both important to music education.

Tennessee Department of Education reports High School Graduation Rate Highest on Record

 

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Education Commissioner Candice McQueen announced today that the 2016-17 graduation rate of 89.1 percent is the highest on record for Tennessee.

The statewide graduation rate is up more than half a percentage point since last year, and overall it has increased 3.6 percent since the 2010-11 school year. This year, graduation rates increased in nearly 56 percent of districts with high schools.
