Tennessee Vols Basketball downs Florida 78-66 in SEC Tournament

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsNashville, TN – A year to the day after not being able to take the court in the second round of the 2020 SEC Tournament, the Tennessee basketball team used a balanced offensive effort and a single-game, school-record nine blocks from senior Yves Pons to push past Florida, 78-66, Friday at Bridgestone Arena.

The win advanced Tennessee to the SEC Tournament semifinals for the third consecutive conference tournament.

The Vols were led by a stat-sheet-stuffing performance from back-to-back SEC All-Defensive Teamer Pons, who tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, and nine blocks.

Tennessee Vols Basketball runs past Florida at Thompson-Boling Arena Saturday, 65-54

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A balanced offensive effort and a momentum-shifting, second-half run propelled the Tennessee men’s basketball team past Florida, 65-54, on Senior Day inside Thompson-Boling Arena. 

The win secured the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye for the Volunteers at next week’s SEC Tournament.

The Vols (17-7, 10-7 SEC) punished the Gators (13-8, 9-7 SEC) on the boards, out-rebounding Florida 38-29 overall and 18-9 on the offensive glass.

#20/#22 Tennessee Women’s Basketball throttle Florida, 79-65

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Sophomore Tamari Key turned in a triple-double to lead No. 20/22 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team to a 79-65 win over Florida in Thompson-Boling Arena on Sunday.
 
Key totaled 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 blocks, setting career highs in both points and blocks. It marks just the fourth triple-double in Lady Vol history and the first since Jordan Reynolds notched one against UNCW on December 29th, 2016. Junior Rae Burrell also eclipsed the 20-point scoring mark for Tennessee (12-3, 6-1 SEC) with 21, while senior Rennia Davis finished with 14.

#6 Tennessee Men’s Basketball chomped at Florida Gators, 75-49

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsGainesville, FL – Offensive struggles and a difficult night on the boards were too much for the sixth-ranked Tennessee basketball team to overcome, as the Volunteers fell to Florida, 75-49, on Tuesday at Exactech Arena.

Florida (7-4, 4-3 SEC) was impressive from the field, knocking down 31 of its 62 shot attempts. The Gators led in scoring by Noah Locke, who had 14.

UT (10-2, 4-2 SEC) was led by senior John Fulkerson who scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, dished out a career-high-tying five assists, and pulled in four rebounds.

Tennessee Vols Football loses to No. 6 Florida at Neyland Stadium, 31-19

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Despite giving up just 21 rushing yards and making multiple timely stops, Florida’s (8-1) passing attack was too much for Tennessee (2-6) to overcome in a 31-19 defeat on Saturday inside Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee true-freshman quarterback Harrison Bailey completed 14 of his 21 pass attempts for 111 yards and his first career touchdown toss in his first career start for UT.

Bailey became the fourth ever Tennessee true-freshman signal caller to make his first career start against a top-10 opponent, joining Erik Ainge, Josh Dobbs and Brian Mauer.
