In the last 12 months, the campus has changed tremendously, both in terms of its layout and its notoriety. New, state-of-the-art buildings are welcoming new students, and even the President of the United States is talking about APSU.

As the University community looks ahead to another big year, here are some of the top stories that defined Austin Peay in 2013.

APSU to hold Grand Opening for new Maynard Building November 18th

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On November 18th, Austin Peay State University will honor several generous individuals when it opens its new Maynard Mathematics and Computer Science Building

The ceremony will begin at 3:30pm with a ribbon cutting by APSU alumnus and local businessman James Maynard.

APSU holds topping-off event at new Maynard Mathematics and Computer Science Building

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University held a topping-off ceremony Tuesday, April 16th at the construction site of the new Maynard Mathematics and Computer Science Building.

James Maynard, a 1956 alumnus, local business and APSU supporter for whom the building is named, was the first to sign during the event.

Austin Peay State University breaks ground on new Maynard Mathematics and Computer Science Building

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For several years, local businessman and Austin Peay State University alumnus James Maynard (’56) has been a supporter of APSU.

He recently created the Maynard Family Endowment Scholarship, which provides financial assistance annually to a student from Montgomery County pursing a business degree at APSU.

Maynard Presented with 2011 Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The Tennessee Board of Regents recognized the generosity of local businessman James Maynard on April 26th by presenting him with the 2011 Regents Award for Excellence in Philanthropy.

Maynard, a 1956 graduate of Austin Peay State University, has long been a supporter of the University. Most recently, he created the Maynard Family Endowment Scholarship, which provides financial assistance annually to a student from Montgomery County pursing a business degree at APSU.

Maynard Family endows scholarship at APSU

 

APSU Advancement LogoLocal businessman James Maynard has endowed a scholarship at Austin Peay State University, continuing his family’s legacy of supporting the Clarksville business community.

“I’m from here, born here, raised here, and I just felt like I need to give back to the community,” he said.

Earlier this year, Maynard donated three separate parcels of land to the University. The land will be sold, and the resulting money will create the Maynard Family Endowment Scholarship.

“The Maynard family’s extraordinary generosity will benefit students for many years to come,” APSU President Tim Hall said. “This scholarship endowment will help students attend Austin Peay who might otherwise have had to forgo the dream of a college degree.
