Nashville Sounds lose to New Orleans Baby Cakes in Extras, 5-4

Nashville SoundsMetairie, LA – The Nashville Sounds wrapped up the road portion of their 2018 schedule in heart-breaking fashion Thursday night as they fell to the New Orleans Baby Cakes 5-4 in 10 innings. Chris Bostick’s two-out single in the 10th secured the victory for New Orleans.

Metairie native Jeremy Bleich pitched the 10th inning for the Sounds and took the loss as he allowed a walk and a base hit in the final frame. Bleich induced a fielder’s choice, which retired the designated runner trying to advance to third base to begin the game. He then walked Christian Adames and two batters later surrendered the game-ending base hit to Bostick.

Nashville Sounds score two in the ninth to beat Round Rock Express, 6-5

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Anthony Garcia’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Nashville Sounds to a dramatic, come-from-behind, 6-5 win over the Round Rock Express in front of 6,215 fans at First Tennessee Park Monday night. The win extended Nashville’s winning streak to 14 games, one shy of matching a franchise record 15 games set in 1999.

The Sounds erased a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to score their eighth walk-off win of the season.

Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Dustin Fowler sparked a rally with his second hit of the night – a sharp single to right-center. Franklin Barreto and Garcia added singles to cut the deficit to 5-2.

Nashville Sounds blank Sacramento River Cats 6-0 at First Tennessee Park

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds got five shutout innings from 20-year-old Jesus Luzardo to help extend their winning streak to eight games with a 6-0 win over the Sacramento River Cats Monday night at First Tennessee Park.

In his Triple-A debut, Luzardo scattered eight hits, all singles, and struck out six. He threw 52 of his 76 pitches for strikes.

The lefty received early run support in the first inning when Boog Powell, Steve Lombardozzi and Anthony Garcia collected base hits. Garcia’s line drive up the middle plated Lombardozzi to give the Sounds a 1-0 lead.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds used a walk-off suicide squeeze bunt from Boog Powell to defeat the Fresno Grizzlies 2-1 Thursday night in front of 8,551 fans at First Tennessee Park. The win clinched the Sounds’ three-game series against the Grizzlies.

The Sounds loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning and the game tied at one run apiece. Beau Taylor struck out and Anthony Garcia grounded into a fielder’s choice at the plate to leave it up to Powell to be the hero for the Sounds. Powell came through in an unconventional way. The speedy right-fielder bunted down the first base line and beat out the attempted glove flip from first baseman A.J. Reed as BJ Boyd crossed home plate for the game-winning run.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN -The Nashville Sounds used a balanced attack at the plate and a strong pitching performance by starter Eric Jokisch to top the Fresno Grizzlies, 5-2, in front of 7,451 fans at First Tennessee Park Wednesday night.

Eight different hitters collected at least one hit for the Sounds, including multi-hit games from Steve Lombardozzi and Jorge Mateo. On the bump, Jokisch turned in his seventh quality start of the season as he allowed two runs over six innings.

Nashville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Lombardozzi sparked a rally with a bunt single in the first inning. He moved to second on a walk and scored on a two-out single up the middle by Boog Powell.

Salt Lake Bees sting Nashville Sounds, 11-6

Nashville SoundsSalt Lake City, UT – The Nashville Sounds built an early 3-0 lead but saw their losing streak reach four games with an 11-6 loss to the Salt Lake Bees at Smith’s Ballpark on Saturday night. All nine Sounds hitters reached base safely in the slugfest, but Salt Lake notched 18 hits and went in order just once against Sounds pitchers.

The Sounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a big first inning against Jose Suarez. Ramon Laureano and Boog Powell walked to start the game, and Sheldon Neuse moved his hitting streak to 13 games by smashing a two-run triple. Then Neuse scored on a sacrifice fly to deep center by Anthony Garcia.

Nashville Sounds split doubleheader with Oklahoma City Dodgers

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds and Oklahoma City Dodgers split a doubleheader in front of a sellout crowd 11,130 fans at First Tennessee Park Saturday night.

After falling 6-1 in game one, the Sounds returned the favor with a 4-0 win in game two. Liam Hendriks, Dean Kiekhefer, Ryan Dull and Josh Lucas combined to shut out the Dodgers on five hits.

Hendriks started for the first time this year and tossed two innings before being relieved by Kiekhefer. The southpaw tossed three scoreless innings and picked up his sixth win of the season. Dull struck out the side in the sixth before handing it over to Lucas who finished the win.

Iowa Cubs blank Nashville Sounds, 2-0

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – A strong start by James Naile wasn’t enough for the Nashville Sounds in a 2-0 loss to the Iowa Cubs Sunday afternoon at Principal Park. 

Naile tossed seven innings and limited the Cubs to two runs on just four hits. It was Naile’s eighth quality start of the season, and his first outing since his 2018 Triple-A All-Star Game appearance on Wednesday.

Nashville’s offense never materialized and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They left the bases loaded in the fourth, and runners on in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds dropped game two of their five-game series with the Iowa Cubs 7-1 Thursday night after a six-run sixth inning from Iowa.

Nashville starter James Naile brought his A-game through 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit and fanning six batters. The wheels fell off after that as the next six I-Cubs hitters collected a hit off Naile before he was pulled.

He yielded three singles and three doubles. Ryan Dull then entered the game for Nashville and allowed his inherited runner to score on an RBI-double from Bijan Rademacher.

Nashville Sounds errors costly in 6-2 loss to Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN -The Iowa Cubs spoiled the evening for 11,691 fans at First Tennessee Park by topping the Nashville Sounds, 6-2, Wednesday night. Three costly errors burned the Sounds as the third-largest crowd in ballpark history took in the game.

Nashville scored first as Ramon Laureano provided early fireworks with a two-run home run down the right-field line in the bottom of the first inning. Laureano’s seventh of the season came moments after Nick Martini extended his on-base streak to 64 games with a leadoff single.
