Nashville Sounds held scoreless by New Orleans Zephyrs

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds were held to five hits in a 1-0 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs in front of 7,487 fans Thursday night at First Tennessee Park.

It’s the fourth time in the last six games the Sounds have been held to one run or less. Overall, Nashville has lost seven of their last eight games and is hitting just .207 as a team in the month of July.

Starter Jesse Hahn was dialed in from the beginning and turned in his first quality start since May 28 when he was with the Athletics.

The right-hander allowed one run on just three hits in six innings. Hahn walked one and struck out five in the tough-luck loss. The lone run he allowed was on Peter Mooney’s RBI single in the third inning.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Nashville struck first but the New Orleans’ bats responded, swiftly defeating the home team 9-6 at First Tennessee Park on Sunday night.

With Sounds primary leadoff hitter Craig Gentry given the night off, Joey Wendle stepped into the tone-setter role in the first inning and performed admirably, tripling to start the game.

Next batter Andy Parrino drove Wendle in and the next two batters – Ryan Roberts and Jason Pridie – followed suit loading the bases with no outs. Parrino then scored on a wild pitch and the other runners moved into scoring position. Roberts would score on a Dayan Viciedo sacrifice fly and the Sounds led 3-0 after one.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Nashville’s offense was halted and the Sounds ran into a strong pitching performance on Monday night, as New Orleans grabbed a 4-1 win at First Tennessee Park.

New Orleans (1st, 3.00) and Nashville (4th, 3.85) both entered the game among league-leaders in team pitching, and the two staffs proved their dominance. Brad Mills notched his team-leading third straight quality start, but still suffered his fifth loss of the year. He tossed 7.0 innings with two runs on six hits. The left-hander induced three ground ball double plays, but also issued four walks.

Right-Hander Kendall Graveman Allows Two Unearned Runs Over 7.0 Innings

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Kendall Graveman delivered a stellar start for Nashville and the Sounds snapped their four-game losing skid with a 6-2 win over New Orleans at First Tennessee Park on Sunday.

The Sounds’ offense notched seven hits on the afternoon and helped the squad improve to 14-23 on the year. Matt Carson led the way by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Alden Carrithers pushed his hitting streak to 12 games. The support backed Graveman, who notched his second win of the season.

Barry Zito Allows Three Runs Over 7.0 Innings For Team’s Second Quality Start Of Season

Nashville SoundsMetaire, LA – The Sounds went quietly on Saturday night in the series opener against New Orleans, posting just six hits and falling 5-0 at Zephyr Field.

Veteran left-hander Barry Zito was the bright spot during an otherwise down game for Nashville. The starter threw 7.0 strong innings, allowing just three runs on three hits and three walks. Only one of the trio of runs were earned, as the left-hander also added three strikeouts. It was only the second quality start of the season for the Sounds’ pitching staff.
