Nashville Sounds drop Series Final to Reno Aces 3-2

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Reno Aces used a strong start by Shelby Miller to score a 3-2 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of 5,058 fans Monday night at First Tennessee Park.

The two teams split the four-game series after the Sounds (70-53) won the first two games and the Aces (65-58) returned the favor in the final two.

Miller scattered 10 hits and limited the Sounds to two runs in 7 1/3 innings. He didn’t walk anybody and racked up nine strikeouts in his fourth win with Reno.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday night in front of 9,297 fans at First Tennessee Park, falling to the Oklahoma City Dodgers 5-0.

The Dodgers touched Sounds starter Barry Zito for two runs in the third inning. First, Kyle Jensen walked and scored on a triple by Buck Britton. Britton then came around to score on Darnell Sweeney’s sacrifice fly. The Dodgers would lead wire-to-wire.

Nashville Pitchers Tie Season-High With 13 Strikeouts

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds ran into some stout pitching on Wednesday night at First Tennessee Park and suffered their second loss of the series to Oklahoma City, 5-2.

The Dodgers came out swinging and jumped on top in the opening frame. Buck Britton ripped a run-scoring triple, Kyle Jensen followed with a sacrifice fly and Oklahoma City had a 2-0 lead before Nashville ever got a chance to hit.

Nashville pushed a run across in the fifth when Jason Pridie led off with a single and Andy Parrino hit him in two batters later.

After Kyle Jensen tacked on a seemingly innocuous solo home run to give the home team a 3-0 lead heading to the ninth, it appeared the Sounds were out for the count.

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – For the second straight night it took extra innings to declare a winner between the Nashville Sounds and Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Unlike Tuesday night, it was the home team that came out on top, 6-5.

The Sounds led much of the game, putting up five early runs on Freddy Garcia. Garcia was thrust into the start  – despite pitching three innings just two nights before  – when Dodgers’ probable starter Carlos Frias was promoted to the MLB squad this morning.

Dodgers Battle Back Twice, Sounds Get Final Laugh

Nashville SoundsOklahoma City, OK – Despite squandering a five-run lead in the seventh inning and blowing a save situation in the ninth inning, the Nashville Sounds (4-2) found a way to emerge victorious (7-6) over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (4-2) in 10 innings.

Chris Bassitt (0-0, 4.76 ERA) was the story early on. The Sounds’ highest rated prospect (5th in the Athletics organization according to Baseball America) had everything going on Tuesday night, mixing in a 97 MPH fastball with devastating off-speed stuff.

Heading to the seventh inning, the 6’5″ right-handed pitcher had struck out eight batters and surrendered just one hit. The Sounds led 5-0.

Nashville Sounds bombarded by New Orleans Zephyrs in 7-1 loss

Nashville SoundsMetairie, LA – The Nashville Sounds (62-56) fell victim to a 15-hit attack from the New Orleans Zephyrs in Tuesday night’s series finale to lose 7-1 at Zephyr Field.

The Sounds drop the series with New Orleans, 1-3, which is only the team’s second losing series in their last 10 sets.

The Zephyrs broke through for three runs on six consecutive hits against Sounds starter Donovan Hand (1-7) in the 2nd inning. Outfielder Logan Schafer helped prevent the Zephyrs from adding another run in the frame by throwing out Rob Brantley at home plate.

With the loss, the first-place Sounds (62-54) fell to 1-4 in extra-inning games and saw their division lead reduced to 1 1/2 games.

Nashville, which failed to protect 1-0 and 3-1 advantages on the day, has held a lead in 20 of its 33 road losses this season.

Nashville’s Jeremy Hermida Goes 3-for-4; Sounds Now Half-Game Out of First

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds (42-40) continued their offensive hot streak to their third-straight victory, a 6-4 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday night at Greer Stadium. The win clinched another home series victory for Nashville, which is now 6-1-3 in home series during the 2014 series.

The Sounds were paced by outfielder Jeremy Hermida, who went 3-for-4 including a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth that proved to be the game-winning hit. Hermida finished the four-game series against New Orleans going 5-for-11 with a home run and 3 RBIs.

Taylor Jungmann Makes Triple-A Debut

Nashville SoundsMetairie, LA – Despite battling back to lead twice in Friday night’s contest at Zephyr Field, the Nashville Sounds suffered a 6-3 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs, who took control with a four-run seventh inning.

The Zephyrs opened their big inning with three base-knocks off the Milwaukee Brewers No. 6-rated prospect, Taylor Jungmann (0-1), in his Triple-A debut. Kyle Jensen’s hit tied the game 3-3 and ended Jungmann’s night.
