Tennessee Women’s Basketball Game at Texas Postponed

 

UT Lady VolsAustin, TX – In accordance with Big 12 Conference women’s basketball interruption guidelines, the Tennessee at Texas women’s basketball game scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13, has been postponed because of contact tracing issues within the Texas program.

It is unknown at this time whether there will be a future make-up date between the Longhorns and Lady Volunteers.

Next on Tennessee’s schedule is a home game vs. Jackson State on December 20th at 11:00am CT. The contest is slated to be televised by the SEC Network.

Tennessee Women’s Basketball hits the road to take on Texas, Sunday

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee (3-1) embarks on its second road trip and its second contest vs. a Big 12 Conference school this season, playing at No. 23 Texas (4-1) on Sunday afternoon.

The UT Lady Vols and Longhorns will meet for the 39th straight season and 42nd time overall at 4:00pm CT (5:00pm ET) at the Frank C. Erwin Jr. Special Events Center in Austin.

Head coach Kellie Harper‘s squad is coming off its most impressive offensive showing of the season in a 90-53 home win over Furman on Thursday night.

Texas, meanwhile, rolled past Idaho at home, 73-48, on Wednesday afternoon.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball falls late to Texas, 66-60

 

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The No. 17/19 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to Texas in Thompson-Boling Arena, 66-60.
 
Tennessee (7-1) was led by junior Rennia Davis who finished the day with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jazmine Massengill was also in double figures for the Lady Vols with 10. Junior Kasiyahna Kushkituah led the team in rebounding with nine. Overall, Tennessee won the rebounding battle at 54-42.
 
Seniors Sug Sutton and Lashann Higgs were the leading scorers for Texas (5-4), posting 19 each.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – For the 41st time, Tennessee and Texas will do battle in women’s basketball. The Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team leads the series, 25-15, after winning the past two meetings.

The No. 17/19 Lady Vols (7-0) play host to the Longhorns (4-4) at Thompson-Boling Arena in a 1:02pm CT contest on Sunday.  The match-up is part of the 10-game Big 12-SEC Challenge, with Sunday’s tilts closing out the week-long competition.

The Lady Vols are playing their fifth of six straight games on Rocky Top after opening with two of the season’s first three contests on the road.

#9/9 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball beats #13/13 Texas, 88-82

UT Lady VolsAustin, TX – Senior Meme Jackson logged a career-high 33 points to lift the No. 9/9 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team to an 88-82 victory over No. 12/12 Texas in the Frank Erwin Center on Sunday.
 
Sophomore Evina Westbrook posted 23 points for her third straight 20+ point performance. Cheridene Green was also in double figures for Tennessee (8-0), adding 10 points and six rebounds.
 
Texas (7-2) was led in scoring by Audrey Warren with 21 points.  Danni Williams, Destiny Littleton and Sug Sutton were also in double digits for the Longhorns with 14, 13 and 11, respectively.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville TN – No. 9/9 Tennessee (7-0) and No. 12/12 Texas (7-1) renew their rivalry in Austin on Sunday, as these storied programs meet for the 40th time during the 40-year run of a series that began on December 8th, 1978, on a campus with an original footprint of land known as the “Forty Acres.” Tip-off is slated for 12:02 Central (1:02 ET), with the game available on ESPN2 and the Lady Vol Radio Network.

UT head coach Holly Warlick, then a junior, started at point guard for the Lady Vols in that first UT/UT match-up, leading her squad to an 84-60 victory over the Longhorns in Columbia, MO, at the Midwestern Classic Tournament.

#7 Tennessee Lady Vols travel to #18/24 Stanford Thursday

UT Lady VolsStanford, CA – No. 7/7 Tennessee (11-0) is in the midst of an eight-day West Coast trip, concluding it on Thursday evening vs. No. 18/24 Stanford (6-5) at Maples Pavilion. Tip time is 6:00pm PT (8:00pm CT).  

UT will be looking to snap a five-game venue losing streak at Maples, last winning on Stanford’s home court on December 4th, 2005. The Lady Vols will be aiming to go 12-0 for only the fifth occasion in school history and for the first time during the Holly Warlick era.

The last time Tennessee began a season 12-0, the Lady Vols extended the streak to 18 games before finally falling during the 2005-06 season en route to a 31-5 overall record. Incidentally, that was the last time UT beat the Cardinal in Maples.

# 11/13 Tennessee Lady Vols corral #2/4 Texas, 82-75

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Senior Jaime Nared scored 23 points and recorded 13 rebounds to lead No. 11/13 Tennessee to a signature win over No. 2/4 Texas in front of a crowd of 9,651 on Sunday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.
 
After another strong start in front of their home fans, the Lady Vols (10-0) never trailed during the game and held the Longhorns (7-1) to 36 percent shooting. Fueled by clutch rebounding and aggressive defense, Tennessee answered every Texas run to hang on down the stretch and earn its first home win over a top-two ranked opponent since beating No. 2 Stanford in 2010. It also halted a three-game losing skid to the Longhorns.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 11/13 Tennessee (9-0) plays host to #2/4 Texas (7-0) at 2:00pm CT on Sunday in Thompson-Boling Arena, continuing one of the nation’s top rivalries in women’s college basketball.

These programs have met at least once (sometimes twice) every season since 1982. Holly Warlick and Karen Aston coach two of 14 Division I women’s teams that remain unbeaten in 2017-18 (as of Friday).

The Lady Vols remain undefeated after dismantling a Troy team that entered with a 4-1 record by an eye-popping score of 131-69 on Wednesday night in Knoxville.

Tennessee Lady Vols release Non-Conference Schedule

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – Notre Dame, Stanford and Texas headline a challenging non-conference Tennessee women’s basketball schedule that was released Thursday by sixth-year Lady Vol Head Coach Holly Warlick.

Tip times and television network assignments will be available at a later date when the information is approved for release.
 
UT returns two full-time starters (Mercedes RussellJaime Nared) and a part-time starter (Meme Jackson) from a team that finished 20-12 overall and 10-6 in the SEC (fifth place) a year ago vs. the nation’s No. 5-rated schedule. Warlick also welcomes the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class to Knoxville, including guards Evina Westbrook and Anastasia Hayes, wing Rennia Davis and post Kasiyahna Kushkituah.
