Nashville’s Ariel Pena Holds 51s To Three Hits in Quality Start

Nashville SoundsLas Vegas, NV – The Nashville Sounds (38-38) entered the 9th inning with a three-run lead, but failed to hold on Friday night at Cashman Field, dropping the series finale to the Las Vegas 51s by a 5-4 margin.

The loss completes a four-game sweep of the Sounds for Las Vegas and pushes Nashville’s season-high losing streak to eight games. At 38-38, the Sounds are back to .500 for the first time since holding a 12-12 record on April 29th.

Leading 4-1 in the 9th, Sounds closer Donovan Hand (1-4) allowed four consecutive base knocks which allowed Vegas to pull within one run before recording an out.

Losing Streak Reaches Season-High Five Games for Sounds

Nashville SoundsLas Vegas, NV – The Las Vegas 51s plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to hang an 8-7 loss on the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday evening at Cashman Field in the opener of a four-game series.

The Las Vegas rally, which came against Sounds closer Donovan Hand, occurred after Hunter Morris had belted a go-ahead homer in the top of the ninth to stake the Sounds to a 7-6 advantage, the club’s first lead in five games.

The heartbreaking defeat extended Nashville’s losing streak to a season-high five games.

Leading 1-0, the Sounds sent reliever Jeremy Jeffress (3-1) to the hill in hopes of having him record his first save. The opportunity was blown when Reno, after drawing a lead-off walk and singling to center, cashed in on an errant throw from Bianchi.

Mills (4-0), who retired his first 11 batters in order and 17 of his first 18 overall, lowered his ERA to 1.76 with the outstanding outing, his longest of the season. He scattered three hits and did not walk a batter in his 101-pitch start.

Nashville SoundsMetairie, LA – Despite battling back to lead twice in Friday night’s contest at Zephyr Field, the Nashville Sounds suffered a 6-3 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs, who took control with a four-run seventh inning.

The Zephyrs opened their big inning with three base-knocks off the Milwaukee Brewers No. 6-rated prospect, Taylor Jungmann (0-1), in his Triple-A debut. Kyle Jensen’s hit tied the game 3-3 and ended Jungmann’s night.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN -The red-hot Nashville Sounds plated a run in the bottom of the eleventh inning to hang a 6-5 defeat on the New Orleans Zephyrs on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium in the finale of a four-game series.

Nashville (15-12), which is tied for first place and has been victorious in six of the last seven games, took three of four from the Zephyrs.

The Sounds lost a four-run lead in the late innings as New Orleans rallied against the Nashville bullpen to force extras before the home team triumphed in its longest game of the year.

Nashville Sweeps Z’s in Doubleheader; Fiers with Complete-Game Shutout

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds picked up a pair of victories in Wednesday’s doubleheader against the New Orleans Zephyrs, winning the first seven-inning contest, 1-0, on Mike Fiers’ complete-game shutout, and the nightcap 3-2.

The two victories move Nashville (14-12) into a first-place tie with Round Rock in the Pacific Coast League’s American Southern Division. The night also marks Nashville’s first doubleheader sweep since July 14th, 2011 against Albuquerque.
