Nashville Sounds fall in extra innings to Memphis Redbirds

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – Randall Grichuk’s walk-off single to deep center field gave the Memphis Redbirds a 2-1 win over the Nashville Sounds Friday night at AutoZone Park.

Grichuk’s drive came with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning. Sounds (31-28) reliever Simon Castro found himself in a jam after issuing a leadoff walk to Patrick Wisdom with the score even at 1-1.

A sacrifice bunt moved Wisdom to second, and a wild pitch put him 90 feet away. Castro came back to strike out Wilfredo Tovar, but then hit Todd Cunningham and intentionally walked Nick Martini to load the bases.

Nashville Sounds errors costly in 4-2 loss to Omaha Storm Chasers

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NB – A pair of errors from Sounds second baseman, Joey Wendle, cost Nashville dearly as the Omaha Storm Chasers eked out a 4-2 victory Thursday night. The loss meant a series split for the Sounds who were seeking a third consecutive series win.

The first error of the evening from Wendle came in the first inning as he was playing in shallow right field with the shift on against left handed hitting first baseman Ryan O’Hearn was at the plate. The error allowed Ruben Sosa to come around to score to put Omaha out in front.

Nashville responded with a run of its own in the next half inning as Renato Nunez doubled to begin the frame, advanced to third on a Matt Chapman single, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jaff Decker.

Nashville Sounds keep Omaha Storm Chasers hit-less in 4-0

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NB – The Nashville Sounds made history Wednesday night by no-hitting the Omaha Storm Chasers. A combined effort from Chris Smith, Sean Doolittle, Tucker Healy, and Simon Castro got the job done for the Sounds in their 4-0 victory. It was the seventh no-hitter thrown in club history and first since Manny Parra’s perfect game in 2007.

Smith, the Sounds starter, cruised through the first six innings, allowing just two base runners via base on balls. He then handed the ball off to Doolittle who is with the club on a Major League rehab assignment. Doolittle needed just 12 pitches to retire the three Storm Chasers he faced including two punch outs.

Healy came on in the eighth inning and sat the three Omaha hitters he saw down in order on a mere nine pitches.

Nashville Sounds dominate Omaha Storm Chasers 10-0

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – There is a recent trend of winning sweeping through Music City and Tuesday night was no different. Daniel Mengden was superb and the offense put on another show as the Sounds trounced the Omaha Storm Chasers 10-0. It was the third shutout in five games for the Sounds.

Mengden’s dominant performance followed suit with what Jharel Cotton and Daniel Gossett had done the previous two nights. The 24-year-old hurled seven shutout innings to extend the Sounds’ season long streak of 22 consecutive scoreless innings from the starting pitchers. The previous high was 20 1/3 innings. Mengden surrendered just three hits, struck out five batters, and issued no free passes en route to his second straight win.

Nashville Sounds late rally comes up short in 8-5 loss

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsSacramento, CA – The Nashville Sounds brought the tying run to the plate twice in the final two innings but dropped Saturday night’s game 8-5 to the Sacramento River Cats. Nashville once again failed to get over the hump and get above .500 for the season.

Despite reaching the .500 mark for the seventh time in 2017, the Sounds still have not been above .500 since April 8th when they were 2-1.

For the sixth consecutive ball game the Sounds (19-20) drew first blood but unlike the previous five it wasn’t the long ball that broke the ice. With the bases loaded in the top of the third inning, Matt Chapman drew a walk to score Jaycob Brugman who started the two out rally with a base hit.
