TWRA announces 2021 Sandhill Crane Festival to be replaced with Online “Celebration of Cranes”

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) reports that the 2021 Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival has been canceled due to COVID-19 Coronavirus concerns. The festival committee has decided to host an online “Celebration of Cranes.”

This virtual event is scheduled January 11th-16th, and will include short, daily interviews with all festival partners, three virtual events hosted by the American Eagle Foundation and the International Crane Foundation along with a Facebook Live broadcast from Hiwassee Refuge on Saturday, January 16th at 9:00am CT.

22nd Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival set for January 19th and 20th

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be among organizations set to host the 2013 Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival to be held on January 19th-20th at the Hiwassee Refuge and in the community of Birchwood, TN. This will be the 22nd anniversary for the event which will run from 8:00am until 6:00pm each day.

The Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival is a celebration of the thousands of sandhill cranes that migrate through or spend the winter on and around the Hiwassee Refuge in Birchwood. It is also an opportunity to focus attention on the rich wildlife heritage of the state and the Native American history of the area.

The Sandhill Crane Festival will be held January 19th-20th at the Hiwassee Refuge and in the community of Birchwood. It is the 22nd anniversary of the event.

21st Sandhill Crane Festival coming up on January 14th-15th

TWRA Voted to Delay Sandhill Hunting Regulation Process for Two Years

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission has delayed a decision for at least to two years to move forward through the regulation process and request the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to establish a hunting season for sandhill cranes in the state.

The decision came in a vote by the commission at its January meeting which concluded Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Region II Ray Bell Building. A lengthy discussion was held during the wildlife portion of the committee meetings on Thursday. The commission heard presentations from Tim White, TWRA Migratory Game Bird Coordinator and Jim Kelley of the USFWS.
