Nashville Sounds fall to Iowa Cubs, 7-1

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – A spectacular outing from Iowa’s Adbert Alzolay and costly errors doomed the Nashville Sounds Friday night as they dropped their series finale against the Iowa Cubs 7-1. The loss halted Nashville’s five-game winning streak, its longest streak since 2016.

Alzolay cruised through the first four innings as he mowed down the first 12 Sounds hitters he faced. He walked a pair in the fifth inning but left both runners stranded. Nashville finally got to the highly touted prospect in the sixth inning as BJ Boyd belted his first home run of the season for Nashville’s first hit of the game.

Nashville Sounds drop 4-2 game to Iowa Cubs

Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – It was a sloppy Thursday night in Nashville between the Sounds and the Iowa Cubs in front of 10,469 fans at First Tennessee Park. A total of six runs scored but just two were earned in Iowa’s 4-2 victory.

The first two batters of the ball game reached on base hits for the Sounds. Franklin Barreto came around to open the scoring on a sacrifice fly from Matt Olson.

Nashville starter, Paul Blackburn was superb through the first five innings but things unraveled for him in the sixth. Stephen Bruno reached on an error by the shortstop Franklin Barreto. Blackburn then issued back-to-back free passes to load the bases for Jacob Hannemann who promptly singled home the game-tying run. The Sounds hurler recorded outs on the next two hitters but yielded a two-run double to Victor Caratini to surrender the lead to the I-Cubs.

Iowa maintained a one run advantage until the top of the fourth inning when with two outs Chapman stepped to the plate. The Sounds third baseman deposited a 2-2 pitch well beyond the left field fence to knot the game up at one run apiece.
