Nashville Sounds get 6-4 win at Memphis Redbirds

 

Ryan Roberts Posts Team-Leading Third Fourth Hit Game of Season

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – Behind timely hitting from Ryan Roberts and Jake Smolinski, the Nashville Sounds defeated the Memphis Redbirds 6-4 at AutoZone Park on Tuesday night.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. Joey Wendle singled and went to third on Roberts’ double. The Sounds second baseman then scored on a wild pitch and Barry Zito went back to the mound with a lead.

The Sounds added insurance in the fifth. In his first game since being claimed off waivers from Texas, Smolinski singled and scored on a throwing error by Memphis’ pitcher Tim Cooney. Two more runs would score for Nashville in the frame and the Sounds led 4-0.

Nashville Sounds Bullpen Allows One Run Over 6 2/3 Innings

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds celebrated Father’s Day at First Tennessee Park on Sunday, but were on the wrong end of a 7-1 tilt and lost the series finale against the Omaha Storm Chasers.

The loss marked the third time that Nashville has been swept in a four-game set this season. The Sounds were outscored 17-7 in the series and dropped to 11 games below .500 for the second time this season.

Craig Gentry opened the Father’s Day contest by banging his second long ball in the last five games. The game-opening homer, which pushed the outfielder’s hitting streak to 11 games, was the first by a Sounds player since Scooter Gennett hit one against the Round Rock Express on July 3rd, 2013. Nashville has outscored their opponent 34-15 in the first inning this season.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Sounds faltered in the series finale against the Redbirds on Wednesday night at First Tennessee Park, pulling the game to within a run before seeing Memphis walk away with a 7-5 victory.

The Sounds trailed out of the gate when the Redbirds tacked on one in the first and added a trio in the third. The three-run frame was capped by a pair of home runs from Stephen Piscotty and Xavier Scruggs and gave Memphis an early 4-0 advantage.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Jason Pridie and Sean Nolin set the tone for the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday night as they snapped their five-game losing streak with a 7-1 win over Memphis at First Tennessee Park.

Pridie has been the Sounds most consistent offensive performer this season, leading the Sounds in every major statistical category. He solidified those numbers on this night.

In the first inning, the outfielder hit a lined shot that two-hopped the Coca-Cola banner in right-center. Matt Carson and Ryan Roberts came around to score, Pridie stopped at second and the Sounds led 2-0. They would never trail.

After being held without a hit through the game’s first six innings and trailing by two, Nashville’s bats awoke from their slumber and the Sounds plated three runs in the 7th to take a lead they would never surrender.

Hunter Morris Hits First Homer Of Year For Nashville

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds belted three home runs en route to an 8-4 victory over the Nashville Sounds on a chilly Tuesday evening at Greer Stadium.

Nashville (5-7) dropped its seventh game in the last 10 contests and fell to 1-3 in series openers this season.

Catcher Robinzon Diaz went 2-for-3 to extend the Sounds’ longest hitting streak of the young season to six games, while first baseman Hunter Morris homered as part of a 2-for-4 evening for Nashville.

Nashville Sounds Game Rained Out Monday Night

 

Make-Up Game Scheduled For May 21st at 6:05pm

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Mother Nature got the best of Monday night’s game at Greer Stadium, which was scheduled to be the final game of a four-game series between the Nashville Sounds (5-6) and the Omaha Storm Chasers (5-6).

The outing has been rescheduled as a part of a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 21st. The first of the two seven-inning games will begin at 6:05pm.
